The Sunday Thread for September 24,2023
I'm writing this while sitting on my bunk at a men's retreat in or near the Catskill mountains in New York. I've attended this about 8 or 9 times before, and it's always been a great refresher and resetter for me. I brought my Furch travel acoustic with me and my bunk mates were subjected to several hours (non-contiguously) of torture by me playing a variety of songs from my repertoire. I had fun! Of course, the main activities had nothing to do with my guitar playing, which is why I feel comforted and refreshed.
The sun hasn't made it over the horizon yet, so we're in the blue hour. We'll tidy up the bunk house, grab some breakfast and after a final gathering, begin our trip home. It's a five hour drive, and we'll stop for lunch, so I expect to be home mid to late afternoon. This week will be the final training I give, as there's nothing more scheduled before my retirement. So many changes!
Be well, friends. Enjoy the day!

In the last couple of days I’ve completed my 77th trip around the sun, and have done that in a relatively healthy condition. On the day of my birthday one of my long-time riding friends lost his fight with lung cancer and is now in the wind. I experienced many interesting capers with my friend and he will truly be missed. You have to live each day like it’s your last as you never know when the sand is going to run out in the hourglass.
Hope all have a great week.

Heading up to Burlington today for some bicycle riding this week. Reached my 1000 mile goal for the summer and looking to add a few bonus miles to the effort!
Big fun!
Preparing for the recording studio next week. A new song for "the album." I foolishly told someone I would write an album for them. 4 songs done so far. It might end up being an EP unless some big inspiration hits soon.

Laker, I too had a birthday mine was Friday, but I'm only 75! My wife had only planned on drinks and snacks at the shop, but my granddaughter made beans, and chile, great to see friends and family.
Losing old friends is tough, but hopefully they're in a better place, we'll see when our time comes.
Re: The Sunday Thread for September 24,2023
We're all of a "certain age" around here... I hit 70/71 the last week of August. Since my weight loss I've never felt better - at least not in 25 years. The wife turns 63 next Friday. She's spending the day in the studio with me to finally meet the studio owner and the new singer I've been working with. (I think that's the main reason she wants to go... :sun she's heard nothing but "Ashley, Ashely, Ashley the last few weeks) . Work is picking up and that's a good thing. My first social security check arrives this week. That's is going towards debt reduction so that when I do retire we'll be in a better place financially. I did order a subwoofer this week for my modest PA... just Behringer, but for the music room it is more than sufficient.
Rainy crappy weekend around here - need to cut the lawn but that won't happen for another week.

Every day above ground... At least that's true for me.
I have to cover a press event at a local school, honoring graduates who have had some success. I researched all four honorees, spent time coming up with questions....only to discover that two of them had already died, one just a month ago. So that means two interviews fewer. ::hmm:rip
Re: The Sunday Thread for September 24,2023
made the rather odd (to me) discovery that wearing shoes around the house makes it easier to ambulate. I've long been a "shuck 'em at the door and walk free on the floor" type. Plus it's less traumatic for the cat when I inevitably step on him, poor kitty. The sore rib is a lot better this week, I started icing it pretty late in the game don't know why it took me so long to figure that out. Should have been doing that as soon as it began to bother me.
missed another party yesterday, probably the last one of the season/year. Did not want to risk a slip or stumble causing a setback to my rehab. At least I wasn't sick like my friend was, whose birthday the party was supposed to be a celebration for.
cool, drizzly day. If I didn't have to go get some kitty litter I probably wouldn't leave the house. Sort of watching football. The season is done for baseball, we're not in the post season.

Serious breach of studio etiquette. Perhaps book a very short session because you probably won't get much done. Bringing outsiders into the studio environment is often disruptive, and with Ann's effervescent, friendly personality, it's likely to become a social event. It's crazy how easily the creative environment can be compromised even with the ones we love...
