Fender Deluxe Vintage Modified amp
I have one the above model amps that is getting some age on it and has some hum in it now. I want to change out the power tubes (GT-6L6-R)to see if that will help. But they have been discontinued. Does anyone know what substitute tubes I could use in it's place? Thanks for any help.
Re: Fender Deluxe Vintage Modified amp
Any 6L6GC will do but I suspect your hum issue is not tube-related.

5881 is similar in characteristics.
Re: Fender Deluxe Vintage Modified amp
You might also start with preamp tubes. Much cheaper to replace.
I hate to be the voice of doom, but I have some experience with the VM series. Don't spend too much money trying to repair an elusive problem.
I had a Bandmaster VM that started acting up. Unfortunately, Fender stopped supporting the VM series quite a few years ago. All of the chips and boards are proprietary and cannot be obtained anywhere. Unless, of course, you bought another one for spare parts.
I had a board failure which could not be repaired. I sold the empty case to someone who could use it for another amp, saved the tubes and a few parts, and the rest of the mess went into the dumpster.
However, my '67 Bandmaster is like an Everready battery. It just keeps going...and going..and going.
