Bought it last month, but it just arrived yesterday. A new extension speaker cab from newellamps.com. It is my sixth one from John and, as usual, it is perfect. Made for a 15" speaker (my Jensen P15N). Covered in smooth blonde tolex with oxblood grill cloth. Fender strap handle, nickle corners and glides, and chrome tilt-back legs. I added a Fender brown flat amp logo myself. Impossible to tell from a "real" Fender product.

My '66 Vibro Champ has been giving me shocks lately. With the original 2-prong cord and death cap still there, I figured it's time to do something about it before it does it's impression of a defibulator. I have no desire to ride the lightning, except by listening to Metallica or watching Green Mile.
|Found a local shop who also builds amps - I tried a couple out, really impressive work. He does repairs also, pretty reasonable rates, as far as I can tell.
He's going to change out the cord and give it a once over. Probably a cap job while he's in there.
I'll probably have to send a couple of my others out somewhere along the way - my '75 Marshall, though it still sounds great. A couple of my others have some little glitches here and there I should have taken a look at.
My '71 Champ is in need of technical help, too. The guy I used to go to has gone off the grid, apparently.Quote:

You have to remove the boxes' exterior cases, which I'm keeping if I ever decide to sell them, of course. Then they slide right in, and are held by screws:

a brass tremolo block for the strat project I'm working on. If I had a bench vise, I could maybe drill out the holes in the zinc block but this is a chance to see if a bigger block is in fact a better block. I've kind of wanted to do this for a couple other Squier strats I have but this is the first instance of really needing to replace one. Something is wrong with that block that it is so hard to get anything to come out of it.
forgot to mention Raw Vintage springs for the strat in question. They were due to arrive on monday but apparently are going to be here today.
Yesterday I found out I had ordered some in February from Reverb. D'oh. They're in the basement somewhere.
I was looking on Reverb for a secondhand G12M Greenback to replace the V30 in the 2x12 cab that came with my Avatar 45 head. I found one for $99 and realized that it was at a local shop (where I bought my DR. Z Cure and Wreck Jr, Mesa MKV25, Martin OOO-15M, etc...). I contacted them about picking it up rather than paying for shipping then saw that they had a secondhand G12M-65 for $99 as well. I wanted to try one of those in my Mesa Fillmore 25 so I bough them both. These speakers are almost mint and in their original boxes. Someone must've tried them and traded them in.
They sound great in my cabinet and Fillmore 25!
I have toyed with the idea of getting a ukulele for a while. I got one delivered yesterday (Nov 13, 2021).

The companion book the Beatles' Get Back mini-series that's currently airing on Disney+ and Eric Clapton's Six-String Stories. The former is basically an illustrated version of the dialogue the Beatles spoke throughout the mini-series, which was based on the 57 or so hours of footage shot for their 1970 Let It Be movie. The latter is a massive assortment of guitar porn, including center-folds of Blackie, Brownie, and Clapton's 1964 Gibson ES-335. These -- and many, many more -- were all guitars that Clapton auctioned off to fund his Crossroads Detox Center. I bored my wife senseless tonight going into some of the details from the latter book. :biglaugh:
I didn't "buy" it, but I was given a Fulltone Full-Drive 2 V2 in exchange for finishing the brass nut on a friend's Yngwie Malmsteen signature Strat (long story). The pedal is only a little larger then my Full-Drive FD-1 and has a couple of new sound options that I like a lot. Fuller also added a volume control to the boost section (still not a separate boost) so you can use it to add distortion or to add volume or both.
I just sold the FD-1 today.
Just looking at the photos made me drool, especially the Clapton book! I'm watching the Disney+ series now, and honestly, I find a lot of it terribly boring.Quote:

I did buy a 4mm hex key wrench but i'm getting hoisted by my own petards re the shipping. Supposed to be in Wed, then Fri, now Monday. I'm still waiting for a response from eBay about a shipper who hasn't put my purchase (brass block) into the mail, going on a month now

I went to the LGS to see about getting a Martin truss rod wrench. They didn't have one to sell, but one of the guys said he'd do the relief with his. So, I walked around and chatted with one guy about acoustics (they had an absolutely gorgeous Bourgeois - about $10K!), comparing Martins and Taylors (they have other brands, as well). As we were about to wrap up, one of their guys came into the acoustic room and said, "We now have a hard shell case that fits a GS Mini."
(Insert exclamation point here).
Since it was used, but in great shape, I expressed interest in it, and lo and behold, came home not with a truss wrench but a guitar case!

Finally retrieved my Vibro Champ from the shop - little peeved about the communication from Music Go Round - they never called when it came back, I had to call them - and they were a bit cagey as to when it was dropped back.
But I'm really happy with the work - swapping out the 2-prong cord for a 3 prog, a cap job and general cleanup, plus there was an extra can cap someone had installed, apparantly to double values. Not sure exactly what that means or does, but it's gone.
I only got to play a few minutes this afternoon, but it's like a brand new amp. Aside from not getting shocked every time I plug it in, it sounds fuller, more punchy...
I'll play more and louder tomorrow, but I'm looking forward to it.
I'll definitely use this guy again, but I think I'd rather make the trek to him directly, instead of the go-between.
Pitch Fork polyphonic octave / pitch pedal. It's very good. I had gotten a Sub n Up pedal, and I boxed it back up after a few minutes with it. The Pitch Fork is a wonderful pedal.
This is a repeat performance from last year when I bought a Heritage H-535 and sold my Gibson ES-335. I bought a used Heritage H-150 yesterday! The H-150 was in great shape and very fairly priced.
The high E string had a little buzz at the nut that I suspected was from too little back angle (from the factory). I was correct and it was easily rectified.

Also, the high E and B string saddles on the Calaham bridge on my Strat have developed grooves in them that are causing sitar like effects, especially when the strings are old. I was going to buy a set of Callaham saddles and just replace the high E and B and save the rest for next time, but I decided to try Raw Vintage saddles in all six positions. I'll let you know what I think of them.

Couple of things. Finding that my surprise purchase of a case that fits my GS Mini perfectly also fits my Breedlove Signature Companion CE, I found an open box duplicate online and bought it. It's a near-perfect fit (good enough for my purposes).

Also, some of you may recall that I lost my mailbox key last Saturday. I ordered a replacement (re-keying of the mailbox, actually) and was told it would take two weeks. I submitted a "hold mail" request to the PO so that the junk wouldn't fill up my box in the interim. Today, my letter carrier spied me coming back from lunch, and drove up to my house, stepped out and handed me my mail. He said he thought I was traveling, and when I told him about the loss, he just said he would simply deliver my mail to my house until the keys arrived! Wasn't that nice? In today's mail was the order I'd placed with Music Nomad for guitar adjusting tools!

Still, I found myself lusting after a companion to my GS Mini, and someone suggested I look at the Martin Dreadnought Junior. Before you know it, I found a web site (Maury's Music, in Pennsylvania, if anyone cares) offering direct-from-the-factory Martins (they're only 40 miles away) at competitive prices. That alone probably wouldn't have sealed the deal, but I spoke with Maury and at his recommendation upgraded the saddle and bridge pins (buffalo horn and bone abalone, respectively). So, adding a HSC and a humidifier pack, the Djr-10E in Sapele should ship tomorrow. I don't expect delivery over the weekend, but I could be surprised. Here's a representative image of what I'm getting.

It arrived, and I posted my NGD notice in the Other Brands thread. I actually alarmed the seller by popping the case long enough to take this photograph, since his advice was to let the box acclimate for 24 hours. It's almost as if I lowered a face mask to take a drink of water: Now you've done it!
I'm not worried, however, the weather has been pleasant, and the guitar shipped via truck, not airplane, and in a case. Still, I'm waiting until this morning to pull it from the case and adopt it. I do like the color! I upgraded the saddle to buffalo horn and the bridge pins to bone with abalone inserts.

That's so nice, OS. I'm a Martin player, as you know, and I like your new baby. BTW, I'm really digging my knock-around Fender 60s whatever. It's nice enough to record with as a foil to the more bass-y Martin. I'm going to get such full acoustics in the next tunes.

Last night, I went to a friend's house for a holiday party and brought along a guitar because I was asked to. I was going to bring my Gretsch Jim Dandy, but I don't have a gig bag or case for it. I bought some Humidipaks and threw them directly into my $200 Fender acoustic. Now there's no problem with he little E fretting out. Dude at the shop claimed that would happen--I didn't believe him but thought it'd be good to give it a bit of humidity. Thing sounds and plays beautifully now considering how little I paid for it.

Nice! I bought a Dean Markely "Promag Plus" acoustic pickup for use on my old 12-string, and never got around to mounting it. I've been reading folks on the Acoustic Guitar Forum talking about the LR Baggs Anthem and other types, but they tend to be expensive and require professional installation. The Dean Markley pickups are user-installable and won't break the bank. Let us know how you like yours!
I have, or had, one of the original Dean Markley soundhole pickups. Don't remember when I bought it but I know I didn't have an acoustic until 1989 at the earliest. I'm 99% sure I gave it to my friend. Some of my better recordings back in the analog tape days were on my Martin with the Dean pickup into my DSL 401 combo. It may not have sounded truly acoustic but it sounded good. I've been thinking about getting one for my Yamaha even though it has built in piezo. The Martin did too but I liked the Dean better. Of course, I wasn't using any sort of acoustic tuned interface so take it with a gain of salt.
Here it is only Tuesday and already Sweetwater delivered my gig bag. I'm happy to report it's a perfect fit!

i got a brand new one of those in a moving box in the cellar, and I was thinking I should just buy another for my acoustic. I'm humidifying the house, it's a minimum of 32%. Not super great but nothing like it would be if I didn't play Gunga Din to the humidifier 2 or 3 times a day. I'm actually thinking of a second machine for the basement.
