from what I read, the Burstbuckers and Pro Burstbuckers have more winds on the slug side than the screw side. These have more winds on the screw side and are said to sound like low wind PAFs, akin to the early Classic57s. I wish I had kept the set I got a long time ago, they were as good or better than most of the flavor of the month stuff that I got sucked into in my early Les Paul Forum days.Quote:

Well, I did it. I couldn't resist the offer -- discounted and free shipping. It was almost pocket change. So here it is, a mint condition Gretsch "Jim Dandy" G9500 flat top "parlor" guitar. Yeah, I know, I know -- I have my KLŌS and my Li'l Martin, so what do I need another "campfire" guitar for?
Well, that's just it -- for campfires (or more likely, visiting family + kids) and knocking around. It's acclimating right now because the temps have fallen, but my brief time on it reveals it to be a surprisingly nice strumming guitar. I'll reserve judgment on it as to a picker and neck-player.

You know Dan, that's really a good idea! I've been reluctant to change the tuning on my "playing" guitars because my inherent laziness tells me I don't want to go through the tedium of re-tuning after I've plunked away at a tune or two. The exploding R tailpieces make me uncomfortable considering I take my guitars on the road often to play gigs and not always have a stunt at hand...

I'm looking really hard at the Epiphone ES-339. Can't see paying Gibson price for a 499 dollar guitar. It would satisfy a totally void niche in my guitar stable.
Man, I'm impressed with the Chinese Epi Casino I bought. My only worry before it got here was that Epiphone might still be encasing their semi- and hollow bodies in thick thick poly. But they've stopped doing that to guitars of all models now. I'm glad I didn't shell out for the American model. I've heard plenty of Gibson 335s, and the Casino can hold its own if a/b'd. No way I'd shell out for anything more expensive. Not true with my other geets. I just think Epi has gotten their shit together and are producing good guitars for the first time since the early Korean models.Quote:

Epiphone has two main lines of guitars now: Gibson based and Original Epiphone models. They've just put out a 59 Les Paul that's supposed to be really good. The choice of 335 types is wonderful if you're a righty. I keep thumping Epiphone now for their recent improvements--the Chinese factory is putting out some beauties. I'd be proud to play my Casino anywhere.

I've searched a year for an AmPro Jazz B neck for my Precision. No luck.
So I've ordered a Warmoth JB left neck, maple fretboard. It's going to look great on my Oly White P bass. My hands just don't get along with P necks, and I love my PB so much.
It'll take 8-10 weeks for it to come in. Been waiting 8 weeks already for the G&L JB 5, and it might only come to me in 8 weeks. It's a race to see which one I get first.

It may be that Epiphone is trying to carve out a top place in the low- to moderate-price range. The MSRPs I'm seeing (all prices in U. S. dollars):

The reviews I've read are generally very positive, but there are a lot of remarks that suggest the guitar needs some setup (fret dressing, truss rod adjustment, etc.) before it hits its stride. Fit and finish are said to be quite good.
Incidentally, the original 1964/65 models are now going for $3,500-$4,000 on Reverb.
Got a cramp in muh finger, 7th seal worthy sign of the apocalypse, hovering over the "add to cart" for a set of 3+3 locking tuners for my Les Paul.
I had just been through a traumatic experience the last few days. It culminated with the installation of a set of 9s being put on my Ro, and summarily cut off the same night for a set of 10s. I was given a fresh reminder of why I go 2, 3 or more years between string changes on my Gibson guitars. I freaking hate side hole post tuners. With a bloody passion.
I also have a history of hating locking tuners, as a result of '80s and '90s Fenders with them. I never got why people were so hot on them. Once I learned how to stretch (and properly wind) my strings, I never had any 'tuning' issues. If split shaft tuners would work on an angled back headstock and come in a 3+3 configuration, I'd be on them in a heartbeat.
But ... and this is a HUGE 'but', if locking tuners can make string changes easier, I just may go that way on my Gibson and Epiphone guitars. I've been assured by a luthier that the newer Gotoh locking tuners hold well and don't strip when you tighten them like those dreadful Fender locking tuners of yore did. The last thing I want to do is add weight to guitars that doesn't have a functional and useful purpose.
A large part of the reason why my Fenders and Squiers get so much play time is I can change the strings on them quickly and bloodlessly.
If you start seeing pigs flying and cats and dogs living together, it was because I bought some locking tuners. You've been warned :laughing:
I've come to love regular tuners with side hole posts since I started stringing my guitars in this "Z" method shown below. The strings stay in tune and can be changed quickly if needed. I highly recommend it (though it's not as quick as locking tuners).Quote:

I ordered both for the live-rig pedalboard I'm upgrading. Still waiting for much of the power and cabling for that, but, I thought I'd check out the EQ today. The thing is seriously cool! Not only can you have four different EQ settings that can be called up by hitting the stomp, (or by MIDI, which is how I'll use it, when hooked to my GigRig pedal switcher), but it also has a built in tuner, and, if you hook an expression pedal into it, you can use it as a wah, by sweeping the frequencies of your choice.
King Tone Duellist overdrive. Without a doubt the best OD pedal I've owned yet. For me, one of the few times when a pedal has lived up to the hype.
The left side is a Bluesbreaker-type circuit; the right side is a Tube Screamer-type circuit. Can be used independently or stacked.

I ordered a Sterling by MusicMan Stingray 4, in natural finish, maple fingerboard, active preamp, passive humbucking pickup. I also ordered a gig bag for it.
Yesterday I was stunned to get a text saying my order was ready for pickup, 10 minutes after the store had opened. During a raging blizzard, no less.
I elected to hold off until today. Then this morning's email batch had a shipping notification from GC. The bass itself is due on Monday, so I guess the text was just about the gig bag.
I plan to check out the bass at the store when I pick it up, and I want the gig bag there so I can take it home in it.
This my newest stuff pictured, including the King Tone Duellist, Source Audio EQ2, and Free The Tone Tri-Avatar chorus. Also new, but not visible, is the Source Audio Ventris Reverb, tucked under the top tier. (Also underneath is a Phase 90, a GigRig Dual Loopy 2, and a GigRig Humdinger).
MIDI is not wired yet, as I had to special-order cables that could be rotated to match the various MIDI jacks for the Timeline, Ventris, H9, Tri-Avatar, and EQ2.
The "Dual Loopy 2" basically lets me split the Duellist into two separate overdrive pedals, so they can be saved with individual presets as one side, or the other, or both together. The Humdinger provides a dry, buffered output to go to one amp, while the GigRig G2's two outputs then feed two other amps for stereo wet effects.

INteresting - I actually do similar, but the second bend, I bend up away from the headstock instead of parallel to it. Don;t know where I picked it up, but I've been doing that forever.Quote:

couldn't stand waiting any longer, ordered a set of gold Grover 'milk bottle' rotomatics, 18:1, 3+3. They're going on my Black Beauty LPC. Going to do a fretboard condition, fret polish, and full setup.
My son and I finished building a workbench in my music room. 4.5'x2.5'. After I painted the room, I arranged it the best way. for playing and recording. So I bought plywood and 2x4s, had everything else. I've needed on of these forever.
