New Snark tuner for those times when I'm not carrying my pedal board with me.
A D'Addario soundhole guitar tuner. Fiddling with headstock tuners on an acoustic guitar can be bothersome and it's ugly to have a wart on full display while playing, so I bought one of these nifty little tuners that simply slides on and into the soundhole. Invisible to all, save for the outside of the clip, it's easy to activate and view without even being obvious about it.

I have used a few different pedal tuners, and the Snarks, and others that are similar. Last year I traded for a Peterson clip on, and really like it, the "strobe" display seems easier to visualize. (Of course somewhere I still have an "A" tuning fork which used to be good enough!)
it still needs to be checked out but I may have found an excellent condition JCM2000 DSL401 combo. I ordered it and it will be shipped to my local GC. It was a bit more than the private sale one that's 2.5 hours away from me. But if for any reason I don't like it, I can walk away. The private sale I have to drive 5 hours round trip and would hate to do that only to find out it's a dud.
I wasn't planning on pursuing the amp but my GC rep called me this morning and I got to thinking about it. I had had a different amp in my cart but later its condition was changed to poor, and if GC says that then yeah, I walked. I forgot to take it out of my cart and when my rep got back from vacation today they gave me a call.
Hopefully it takes its sweet time getting here so I can sell something to defray or even cover the cost.
Bah! That thing would be flicked off the clip and rattling around inside my guitar halfway through the first song! LOL!
I love the idea, but I pick hard and deep at times and fear I would knock it right off the clip.
I tend to play acoustic more like electric style. Nice idea though. Peg head tuners do look pretty gooofy.
You'd think that Fishman (or somebody else) would integrate one of those tuners into the electronic control modules that they install in acoustic/electric instruments......Quote:

Got a ToneWood amp. Not really an amp, but a device that adds effects to acoustics without having to go to pedals/amp. They were having a 30 off sale and I bit. Waiting on some strings before I try it on my Martin. If I like it, I may get some additional braces so I can use in a number of my acoustics.

I got my feet wet with a Behringer Uphoria umc404hd. quite serviceable device at very reasonable price point for beginners.
Boss CS-3 Compressor.
Nice to have serious sustain sometimes when I'm playing dead clean.
I traded for an Eastwood tenor guitar, plan on tuning it in fifths like my mandolin.

The smallest amp I've ever owned. I have the Spark MINI from Positive Grid, and this is their latest, a "pocket-sized" amp that uses every model and effect available through their Bluetooth app. Shown here with the XVive wireless receiver, which is probably how I'll use. Everything packs into a gig bag pocket, making playing and practicing on the go (hence its name?) a breeze

You know, I thought about doing exactly that. It's very hard to photograph, but the handle & the faceplate are brown.
So I forgot to mention it when I got it, but at the spring Northeast Guitar Expo last month I picked up a new-to-me pedal, a J Coloccia Id overdrive. |Nice sound to it, it's at least for the moment replaced the original Bixonic Expandora I've had on my board for the mid-gain drive for the past 20ish years.
While I was there, another vendor had a Cochrane Timmy for sale, and of course I tried that out.
I'd had a hankering for one for a while, and sad to say, playing one cured me of that urge. Even with high EQ topped out, it sounded like there was a pillow over the speaker.
I also just this week got a few new picks, an outfit called Attak Piks. I got the mix pack, and while a couple of them I don't see much use for (one very thin and another large and triangular) I'm liking the feel of them a lot, and even the small, which they touted as being similar to a Jazz 3, isn't quite. It's bigger than the 3, similar to the John Petrucci signature pick size. I don't care for the 3, it's a bit small, but the JP is nice. The Attak is nice also - they may well work into my regular rotation.

Picked up a used mint condition Helix LT yesterday. While I am a Fractal guy, some of the places I play have these as house rigs. So I’m going to learn it and use it in my practice room, replacing my Mesa MKV. It will also simplify my load in/outs at a place. If it performs well with bass, I’ll also sell my Hartke amp that is in the practice room. Less gear and I could potentially end up $1450 to the positive.

Wanted to see what a Strat neck pickup sounds like in a Telecaster so I have a Lollar Royal T on the way. Actually like the neck pickup in my Tele, but theoretically having a strat neck and Tele bridge sounds like a really good “Swiss Army Knife” fender.
I let it acclimate for 24 hours due to the extreme heat we've been having. Inspired in part by S. Cane's fondness for his Washburn, and knowing that some "name" players have associated with the brand, I liked the looks, the features and the price of this Washburn G-Mini 55 Koa. Yes, it's laminated, but it's also less than half the price of a Taylor GS Mini-e Koa (which I have and love), I figured this would fit into my "travel/knockaround" guitar collection.
Having been playing my 12-string Taylor and Furch Little Jane a lot recently, I was struck by how narrow the neck at the nut is. I also think it needs some neck relief, because while the harmonics sound nice and clear at the 12th and 7th frets, the 5th fret is dull across the neck. Well, what can you expect for a <$400 guitar?
Nice features, too: A walnut binding with "armrest" and what Washburn calls a "comfort carve-away" for access to higher frets.

I received a brand new Fuchs Blackjack 21 1x12" combo yesterday. I had been looking for a channel switching combo with a nice clean sound and compressed OD sound to compliment my collection of more organic sounding vintage style amps. Between paying no sales tax in Massachusetts over the weekend, a discount for saving it as a favorite on Reverb, and 3% cash back on my CC, it was a pretty good deal.
It's a Dumble influenced amp. It sounds fat and warm on the clean and OD modes. Clean and OD share eq, but the OD has a tone control to shave off the excess highs and sounds great. The amp has built in digital reverb that sounds ok. It'll be fine with as little reverb as I use. It weighs 35 pounds so my messed up back and wrists can take it places.

Not sure how, but it changed the sound of my pedal board. Have to re-learn it.
The Pedal Pad power supply was causing certain effects to cut-out and resulted in a very weak signal at times. Perhaps the voltage was too low, or the 9 pedals drew too much current for the 25-year-old unit.

Ok.....so maybe got a little nuts recently. Got myself a tonemaster Deluxe Reverb. Really like it. I have a couple of friends and recently did sound for the Nighthawks.....all using them. Some with the super, some the twin some the DRRI. They all sound on point. Let's see how they hold up.
Also got a used roadworn jazz in SB. Had an 06, this is an 05. Also have a Fiesta red 14. I really like these. They are all just a little different. That makes the Suhr either #3 or #4 TBD. Also picked up a snsamp bass driver DI. I used it straight into the PA on one gig and into a qsc k12 on another just to see how and what it could do. I am very pleased with it as back up or instead. Happy birthdays to me.
Well, I consider this guitar-related, even if peripherally.
I've gotten tired of my current "impeller" humidifier tossing fine white powder into my whole house. My daughter gave me a larger volume humidifier last year before I realized the powder was the result of minerals in the water spewing out with the mist. So, I decided I'd had enough of the dusting and cleaning and bought a Vornado EVAP50 evaporative humidifier. Not only does this type not produce the white powder, it also has a capacity of four gallons, which in my small guitar room (guest room) could last up to several weeks. During the very dry times of winter, this may only be a few days, but even then it beats having to refill the old one two or three times a day! I also like the fact that it's designed, made and supported in the USA.

We have this same humidifier. The only (relatively minor) issues are that it make gurgling noises as it draws in water and the wicks are on the expensive side.Quote:

I'm still really liking this mini bass amp. Much more sound coming out it than the Rumble 25 (understandably). My "big" bass rig (Hartke LH500 head and two Avatar cabs, 2X10 Neo and 1X15) has been pushed out of the house and into my storage shed on the property to make room for more guitars (which I can't seem to stop buying).
Sounds like serious hardware to me. Nothing in Fender's (C)rumble line of bass rigs ever impressed me, I think you did well.
I dunno, I've gotten a lot of praise for the sound of my Precision through my Rumble. Chacun Ã* son goût, as Marcel Marceau would have said…
I've got some Thomastik-Infeld flats coming in for my Eastman jazz box. I've put off the flats, but time for a string change, so I'm going to try them out.
Don't have any photos of it, but I got in on an AnalogMan Prince of Tone last week, it came in Saturday.
I only got a chance to plug it in last night, and I'm most impressed.
I'd had my eyes on the Cochrane Timmy for a while, and got to play one this spring, and wasn't impressed with it - at all tone settings, it still sounded like there was a pillow over the speaker.
I later got a chance to try the MXR Duke of Tone, and liked it. I figured that I wasn't in a rush, so why mot spend the extra $20 for the real deal.
|I've been going on Analogman's site on and off for a few months to try to get in, and did so this week. The PoT is opened for sales only Wednesdays; limited amounts available)
So I plugged it in last night and was really impressed - between the tone knob's sweep, plus the internal trim pot and dip switches, it's a huge range, plus the 3 settings, boost, OD and Dist. I still have some tweaking and playing around with it to do to figure out how it's going to sit in my rig, but it's for sure a keeper (even though I could turn it around on Reverb or Ebay for a good profit.|)
