Robert Johnson did it originally. Then Cream did the now famous version (Live). I don't know if Mountain ever did a recording of it.
Is that the same version as:
Robert Johnson's "Cross Road Blues"
or Cream's "Crossroads"
or some different tune altogether?
Johnson has, I believe, a couple of recorded versions. They are significantly different from the Cream version. there are countless versions out there by many unhearalded blues artists, both acuostic and electric. My band does it as a slow, swing-y shuffle...

Yup ... Johnson did a few versions of "Crossroad Blues" down there in the ol' Mississippi delta. Then EC noticed a sure thing and ran with it. Many have done it since, but none as notably as Johnson and Cream.
And although EC's lead pickin' was awesome, the rest was nowhere as great as Johnson's acoustic pickin' throughout.

The Robert Johnson "Crossroads" was recorded on Nov. 1936 in San Antonio, Tx.
If you like this song you are sure to like the others. Buy the Robert Johnson Complete Works on Columbia.
I need to get that.
I don't have any Robert Johnson at all.
Anybody see the Robert Johnson acoustic that Samick was making for awhile?
I heard that it got kind of collectable.

I don't believe Mountain ever did crossroads. I could be wrong as I have not kept up with Leslie's later stuff after Felix moved to the great gig in the sky
When they were recording those
they were recorded onto wax and it was so hot
they would take those to the icebox to keep them from melting
that was what I was told he played in Dallas then as well
and some rumblings that he might have stopped in austin.
Don't think Leslie's stubby little fingers could move that fast,
You'd be amazed.Originally posted by Plankspanker

Mountain did a different song called "CROSSROADER"
The Sun don't shine, the Moon don't move the tides to wash me clean..
I used to see him a long time ago when he was in The Vagrants at the OBI. He is an amazing guitarist.
saw Leslie in 71 when he was as big as a mountain. don't let those stubby little fingers (which aren't so stubby anymore) fool you. The boy could play. During the early years of Mountain, he used a Les Paul jr. that rested on his belly. Sorry really got "off topic" here. Just was reminded of Mountain. Leslie's playing was a big influence for me, but without Felix it just wasn't Mountain anymore

Check out Robert on this definitive collection. This link is just to show you what CD to get. I'm sure you can find it for a similar price at your favorite place.
