What is reasonable offer on this 56/62 strat?

Found an original strat which turns out to be a real 1956 neck mated to a real 1962 body. Issues.....totally refinished but neck dates and body dates intact, routed out for humbucks at neck and bridge, no original pups or electronics, tuners, pickguard, bridge saddles.

So basically a candidte for restoration, a real neck and real body.

    What is a reasonable offer?????????

    Thanks!!!

I managed to get the guitar AND a 71 Marshall (1959 with 1960A cab ) as a package deal. Guitar is nice but I'm leaning on having RS GUitarworks do a "Mary Kay" on her since it would cost a lot to buy all the original parts only to have a mismatched ( 56/62) guitar.

Maybe better to make nice transformation with some good pups and electronics rather than invest huge sum in original parts. If I go this route, I'll try to post some photos. I've worked with RS and they are truly unbelievable. Thanks for all the advice.

The guitar has been at RS for a couple of weeks. Roy has "artistic license" to transform her into a "Mary Kaye" complete with aged gold parts. I'm having pickup genius, Jim Rolph do some 56 strat clones complete wih aged covers.

I'll post photos when she returns!

After months of waiting, the guitar is on its way back! Roy sent me some excellent photos which clearly show his incredible talent. Would anyone care to post? Hopefully Roy won't mind.

Please let me know and I'll post pics asap.

    Thanks.

looks like i'm coming in late on this thread, but....

$2k sounds high, especially w/o orig pups/elec & misc issues

    i'd offer $1300.....$1400 TOPS

    WAIT......on second thought, I think I'd only offer $1000!

    IMO

Now that yoiu mention it, does look like the double dots are far apart.
Since I'm not next o the guitar at the moment I can't measure or anything, however, I've known about this guitar ( belonged to a good friend ) who bought it in 1970 at a time when '57 strats were $500-$700,so it is doubtful there was any funny business involved. The neck date sbsolutely is authentic. It may be the angle in the photo or the slight mis alignment of the strings.....in any event....I got a great deal, the guitar ( not plugged in ) sounds very resonant. Thanks for your comments all!

Hey, Frank...I've been at this since 1971 and still learn something new all the time!!!! Fenders especially are difficult due to their modular nature. They were frequently stripped down to natural wood in the "hippie" days...I did one myself!!!! Awful looking.

Where did you do your '56 strat research?????? Love to visit the site or view the book.

    Thanks

You have what for me is a dream guitar. Gawd I love maple-ash strats and Mary Kays sure are purty!

I just did a web search for 1956 Fender Strat.

Some public links, and some peoples personal sites came up w/ their personal pix.

Re: What is reasonable offer on this 56/62 strat?

Thanks to frank thomson's keen eye, I noticed that the strings on the strat did not cross the double dots appropriately which led me to scope the nut....voila'!....the nut ( replaced ) was not cut properly and thus the strings are slightly off alignment!

This was NOT done by RS but by the previous owner. Mystery solved!

Thanks to frank for pointing this out.
