A former employee of mine offered up my name to a local university, and they called me asking to talk to me. I went to see them today, and they are looking for people to work on cosmology research. I talked with them about the current rave in string theory - adding a dimension and looking at membrane theory from a gravitational point of view, and seeing if it could be reconciled with Einstein's General Theory.
But I really love my job at the RV dealership. I'm in a complete state of confusion as to what to do. I love my job, but I feel somewhat that I'm pissing away an education. But I also realize that this research is so deep that it really doesn't have any real life application other than making the university look better in the journals. I can't see it making any airplanes fly higher, farther, or faster. It would be a cake job, as long as I keep a bunch of equations on the whiteboard I can pretty much do whatever I please, whenever.
So which is more important, having fun or being a player in the ego inflated world of research. I'm still liking the fun option better.
