"THE TWIN" red knob.. Do I want this?

I'm helping a guy sell a Fender "The Twin" red knob amp. But the question is, do I want it?

I would not have to pack and ship it this way...
I don't have a tube amp, so is this a "to die for" amp that I should sell a bunch of stuff off so I can keep it, or should I just let it go?

it depends on how much he wants. a lot of people don't like these because it doesn't sound like a real twin. however, if you can get some tones that you like out of it, and he doesn't want much for it, then you should buy it.

The red knob Fenders are, generally, pretty undesirable. I wouldn't pay more that $200 for it, even if I didn't have a tube amp.

Ok, I'll give it a listen, but I won't be hot on keeping it.. Thanks again for the great info, guys.

from what i know of these things they are like 135 watts? or more. from what i know of your family situation it would be a waste unless u want an attenuator for a not so great amp. just my $.02

yes, it's 100 watts, but it has a switch that brings it down to 25 watts. Not bad for practice. I'll listen to it, but unless it really moves me, I'll just pass on it. I'm selling a guitar also for him and the commission would about pay for the amp, but it does not sound like an amp I really want.

I bought one from eBay and it worked fine for a month, then it broke, just like my guitar tech predicted it would. Had it repaired and sold it back again.

    PASS!

now that seems to be the real drawback.... almost every one i've ever is seen was either broken at the time, or had just been fixed.

try a search on FDP, I think there is a resistor that cooks and the amp is easily modified. If it sounds good to you and is reasonable......

25 watts through 2-12s will still be very loud.

I had a red knob Champ and it was an awful sounding amp.

Thanks good info. I hope I don't have to do the resistor mod on it... I'm going to play it a few weeks first. It has not been used in years. I could not find on this site exactly where the resistor was, though...

Well, he is going to bring over both of his red knob twins tonight. I really want to check them out. I'm looking forward to it! I just hope the resistors blow fast so I can fix that and sell the easily.

    Hey! This thing sounds GREAT!..

The clean channel is really good, and the distortion channel is not bad at all. It's really muddy until you turn the presence up, then it sings.

    It weighs a ton though...

    Buy! Buy!

    Everyone loves Red Knob Twins!

That piercing, shrill, clanging, searing, scalding tone brings out the best from thin weedy half-shot pickups...

    Ah, well.
That "search" option can be a killer sometimes. :)
