    4 Way switch conversion.

Has anybody done this. Is it worth trying.

I just bought a set of Texas Specials that came with a diagram for the 4 way and I was wondering if I should wait and get a switch.

    Your thoughts are appreciated,

    K

I've done it. It's worthwhile. The way I figure it is this - I've already invested money in the pickups. For the price of a replacement switch I can get another entirely unique and useful sound out of them.

The two pickups in series is definitely a very cool, useful sound. It's thick and full, almost humbuckerish in character. It's like kicking your tele into overdrive!
    s'all goof.

Yep. It's a useful mod for most folks. It does make it harder to find the neck-only position, if you luse that one a lot. Most folks don't, but I like a good tele neck pickup.
    Several guitars in different colors
    Things to make them fuzzy
    Things to make them louder
    orange picks

I found I didn't like or need the 4th position at all. Like Kap'n said, the middle position became something I had to think about to get to. I took the switch out and put the 3 way back in.

Yes, I did it. I did it the Fender way.
Back-bridge, next both parallel, next neck, next both series.

Guitarelectroics.com has a diagram also, but it confused me.

Also, with any of these mods, you need to run a separate neck pickup cover ground back to the ground pot. Actually I prefer to do this on any Tele anyway.

I use it a lot with a lot of overdrive. I run my two tubescreamer clones in series and then the pickups in series. very nice tone and LONG sustain.

I did it. Liked the sound, but didn't like having one position that was a lot louder than the rest as well as the added complexity of the 4-way switch.

yes, the series position is louder, but then you can really kick up a solo that way without having to turn up your amp!
