    somebody kick me!!!

i almost sold my 84' fullerton reissue yesterday. I took it to the dallas guitar show to try with some pedals and had several guys try to buy it. I felt a weak moment and almost let it go. played it when I got home at our band practice and was glad it came back home with me. what was I thinking???? they also had Claptons blackie there beside SRV's Lenny.

... uh, maybe, what you could buy with the money you made from the sale?

Glad you kept it. You'd have really kicked yourself in the hind-quarters if you'd have sold an amp you really seem to love. A good amp, like a woman, is hard to find.

Close call. Back in 85 I almost traded my 82 fullerton reissue for a kramer baretta. Fortunately I came to my senses, but I still think about it with shivers. I still have it. Out of curiosity what did they offer you? Prices seem to be all over the board for those (mine's a keeper).

I was offered form a dealer $1600 cash. another dealer wanted to give me $1200 in trade towards a Les Paul. He told me I wasn't leaving him room to make money. I told him i didn't care if he made money and it upset him. taking a guitar in to a show is like going into a very large pawn shop. i new better than to carry it in like I have done with other guitars in the past which I never sold either.

He offered you $1200 cause he knew he could get twice that $2400-2500 easy. Thats just how it works when you go into most places.

That's exactly how it works with just about all retailers guitars, camera equipment etc. They make more money on used gear than new gear. I usually get a price from a dealer, just about double it and sell it for what is called "fair" market value.

I didn't realize they are worth as much as $2500--I guess I'm gonna hold onto mine, although it really doesn't get much playing time. The neck is slim, and I like a fat neck on a tele. Maybe when my kids get to college and I really need to...

Pretty much what you get paid by a dealer is 1/3 what they're going to sell it retail.

The wifey and I went to lots of auctions to fill up our house with cool furniture and over time we knew what pieces would sell for retail and when we were bidding against a dealer we could bet them just past their tipping point and win. We got pretty good at it.

Some dealers would get caught up in the bidding and get stuck with stuff. That was also fun.

hey Safari, I have before contacted him and he offered me $1200 in trade for a Les Paul Classic from 1990 that didn,t have the original pickups . He wanted 3500 for the LP and around that price for some of his Strats just like mine. He wouldn't even meet with me to let me look at the LP. no thank you Joe!
