Looking more seriously at the Hwy one P Bass

I am htinking that this is pretty much the American P Bass with a more 70's neck profile, Am Pups, Greasebucket tone circuit and Nitro finish. Add the BAII and its already ready already......

I played one in a shop and one belonging to a friend.

    What else am I missing?

    You are missing a Highway 1 P-Bass.

You should get one right away!

I'm sure crazy about my Highway 1 Jazz Bass!

I like my HWY1 Jazz BASS.

The neck with its graphite rods is more stable than most of the BASS guitars Ive owned and the badass II bridge is really nice.

    Sustains forever!

I was also looking at the American Standard - it also looks REALLY nice.

I have a nice Jazz Bass (you may be familiar with it Marcondo) and the JAG, along with two other SX basses.

This is to be different. An excercise in really good quality simplicity. A bass players bass. I hope to find some passion in that.

I think these are both really good choices....mostly dreaming right now, but this is probably going to be do-able soon enough....

    A Bass Player's Bass

Either the American Vintage 62 (My first pick)
    or the Highway 1

Due to Cost .....the Hwy One, then the Standard american THEN the Vintage 62 - Agreed.................

Cost......I guess it finds its way into so many Equipment decision equations........

Due to cost.......Then I would go with the Highway 1

Oops! I did go with a Highway 1.
Well, a J-Bass anyway....we already discussed the reasons why.

i don't think you can go wrong with it FJ! i played one a couple years back and really dug it, except the finish, but that can be buffed out anyways. from the bass player who knows how to play with is legs behind his ears, DO EET!

Re: Looking more seriously at the Hwy one P Bass

    Well.............

    this is the rub.

A good friiend of mine who mentored me and really gave me the time of day in trying to learn anything about playing came to see me play recently.

He basically told me to pick something out, he would pay for it. I was uncomfortable with this, but he told me that he wanted to, because getting me playing helped him get back into it and he also wanted to thank me. He said he was so impressed with my progress and wanted to be responsible for going to the "Next Level".....

Bottom line, we are friends, and financially, he can do this and pulled the "Don't insult me by refusing" thing.

I could get stupid with this, but don't want to do that. At the same time, he told me to step up from the low end stuff, and pick what I wanted.

He is like a big brother to me, and we have shared some hardhships through the years. He gave me my first strat, and I sold my Gretsch to by another and give that first strat back to him, because he loved it so much.

I am planning on one of these P Basses, and will probably give him the Newly refurbished MusicMan Cab for his bass. It really came out nice, and He should enjoy it.

Chuck - I was going to look at that Ibanez, but since this has occurred, and unless it falls off, I will have to back out on that for now.......I am sure you understand......

Oh, in that case....three words......Fender Custom Shop!

Oh well, I understand......it's never good to take advantage of a friend.
I have a friend in Dallas that we've shared everything a human being can share (except women) since we were about 12 years old. More like a brother to me than either of the ones I have or had. Enjoy...you'll be able to pay it back in other ways......and if you can't, you'll pay it forward. So there.
