    Mustang question

I just got a Mustang bass, but I know nothing about it. I was hoping that someone here more knowledgeable than myself could tell me a little bit about my new guitar. It is a dark brown color. It's serial number is 626346. I have tried to date it by the serial number but I can't seem to find any reliable sources. It also has a little thing on the headstock that says something about the offset body being patented.

Any info you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    Man, not even a "thanks."

I'm thinking about looking for a Mustang.

In these days of aftermarket parts, I'd rather have a Musicmaster. At least I could swap out the pickup.

Especially since the software is designed to prevent that.

It sort of reminded me of FZ's Andy.

If you want a Mustang, the MIJ Reissue is a very good little bass. They go for around $400 used. The Mustang is a much better built bass than the Musicmaster (Squier reissue or vintage).

I bought my daughter a '72 Mustang last year and she loves. It sounds great paired with her Apeg B100-R.

I hang at the FDP; there's not enough traffic here to visit every day and I wasn't getting any email notes that someone has replied to my post.

Maybe, but it's much higher quality traffic.

Not a lot of gun-talk or one-sided political expression here either.

    Re: Mustang question

FYI. There is a Fiesta Red Mustang for sale on Talkbass for $425, if you are interested.

I've found some of the posters on the FDP to be the most knowledgeable people on Vintage Fenders I've ever met.
If I want to hear about hot chicks and movie bass lines, I go to Harmony Central.
If I want to read questions about someone's new Squire (sic) or 9-string bass I go to Talkbass.
Although TB is the place to go to by or sell a bass.

I guess you haven't hung out here enough. There are many who are with the force in this forum.

Maybe in the other forums, but the bass forum here rarely has any activity.
Take a look. There were posts in two threads today. The next oldest post is from January! There have been post in only 11 different threads this year. That is low traffic.

Anyway, see you guys next weekend.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Re: Mustang question

Hmm...maybe Talkbass has a little more activity in the bass thread count than we do, but check out everything else...

I've often found that many of the vintage amp people there also talk out of orifices that weren't intended for speech.

If I wanted vintage Fender amp or guitar talk, there are other places to find more accurate information.

I am primarily a bass player, and use other forums for info in that respect. I do put something in from time to time.

I find that if you post a question.....it is best to peropdically check in, but btst if postings are rare, few and limited.....it isn't a big deal to check all the time.

M5Yates - what are you playing? I am curious, (types of music - maybe equipment)......

Thank you very much Bill, I've heard that about the MIJ RIs.

I had a LPB 1969 Mustang for about a week, but it didn't compare sonically with the other basses I was using- just not "big" sounding enough for what I was looking for. Now, I'm actually looking for that SS sound- Of course, the days of finding a 1969 LPB Mustang in good shape for $400 are long gone...
