HRDs much better than given credit for

As a long time pro player I can't understand all the negative threads over HRD'S I have had several, and every one has been better than good as a regular gigging amp and the Purple Limited edition I have is as complex and responsive as any amp I've owned ( and that's almost anything).
I think touch and technique have more importance than amp platform.
As a matter of fact a friend runs a back-line rental company and the national backiline rider requests almost always allow for an HRD or a Deville when Fender is the requested amp.
I'm sure the bedroom players will blow this out of the water, but they probably weren't playing clubs when a Peavey Classic VT series was about the same money as a HRD is now. These are great amps for the money if you remember what we used to deal with in this price class.

Please understand I consider "amp platform" as a quality tube amp. I might be open minded but let's not get carried away!

I've heard lots of people using these in person, and they have sounded good. They can get some good sounds.

Granted, most of it's done through the clean channel.

There are some pretty bad manufacturing issues, though. I've seen the same flaws in all the Hot Rods that I've been inside.

I've noticed that the Hot Rods that are out now must be a new revision. All of the jacks are about 3/16" off from where the orginals are, leading me to believe that they've changed jacks on the inside. Maybe they've fixed some of the other problems on the board, too?

I have yet to see inside a newer one.

have you ever had one break on you from breathing on it the wrong way? I had a HRDeville, and have played all of that line, blues deluxe, etc. The clean channel is ok, but something is always breaking, and I can't deal with that.

Like McDonalds, HRDx's are plentiful and consistent from town to town.

Before the Hot Rods took over the world, Twin Reverbs were on the rider of nearly any touring artist that didn't carry a back line.

Was it their favorite amp? I suspect not.

However, Twin Reverbs sound close enough to each other that folks can get used to dialing one in night after night close enough to live with. And they were ubiquitous.

Thanks for the honest opinions. I haven't ever had an HRD leave me hanging. And the 5 year warranty covers alot of ground. As to the rider requirements--consistent is the word.
Lots of other stuff with the exception of (Marshall,Mesa and the occasional JC120) don't seem to be on the consistently requested list and that proves my point.
I attend many of the shows the mentioned company supplies and players as diverse as Todd Nichols of Toad the Wet Sprocket, to Johnny Cola with Huey Lewis, to Nils Lofgren and others seem to play with inspired intensity and no lack of complex tone through these so called duds.

With fuel and energy costs high, you must use alternate forms of energy...burning useless guitar amps could be one way to economize.

I'll say that one good thing about renting HRDx amps is you don't have to own it and don't have to worry about it failing. That's the rental company's problem.
