I only have the ticking in my home which may seem to indicate somthing going on in my home electric circut.I did take it back just to make sure it wasn't anything else,check out OK no ticking in the store only at home. I have heard of the "service bulletin # 9".Anybody else? NDRU, are you a Guru?

It's not to bothersome. Some days I get it other days I don't. I believe it is in my home some where OR maybe picking up some kind of signal from an unknown source. I was concerned at first cause the amp being brand new, but now I spend more time enjoying the tone and nothing else much matters.

Electronic devices really do interfere. In my "Guitar Hole" I have a TV, DVD and Dolby Surround system. The TV makes all buzz real nice and the DVD player sends out vibes from hell! I have to be standing close to them to really get it to hum - kind of stupid since I bought some cool practice/play along DVDs to jam with....
Halogen lights are also a killer. Removed all in the room.

the worst are neon lights, beer signs, all the things you find in bars!
I played a show recently where the Strat was nearly unusable because of all the noise, even in the 2 & 4 positions

I get emr interference on my big screen rear projection tv, if my DRRI is too close to the tv.....
Ditto weird hum noises in the amp if on the same circuit as a light dimmer....
When I 1st got my DRRI, the previous owner pulled one of the preamp tubes from channel 1. Been using it this way ever since. I seem to recall Kap'n saying using the V channel with this "mod" removes the bright cap from the V channel circuit.
Anyway, I usually keep the vol around 4, B around 5 (or lower if using hbuckers), T around 6, and use the vol controls on the guitar to raise lower volume. Up the vol a bit on the amp, and then can control tube distortion coloring with the guitar volume controls.
Nope. It does bump up the gain in the V channel, though.

Right, nothing removes the bright cap from that channel except, well, removing the bright cap.

What is really cool in Germany is that this neon light thing is not really in. In the places we play there is none of this. I remember playing in upstate NY - the Rongovian Embassy - they had tons of beers on tap and all the neon signs to match. Even my Les Paul buzzed........neon hell!

sounded great, but I was by myself. I find that every time I dial in a sound I like it's out the window when I add a band.
Seems the Normal channel isn't as finicky.
I find I can't actually hear reverb in a band context either, so I went back to the Normal channel

Well, I started this thread and now I have been playing pretty much exclusively with Fender Amps for over a year now. I have begun to see the light now......
This is pretty much the same for the SRRI as well as DRRI....
It is amazing how the tone pots and volume on the amps are interactive. I have been toying this and it is very different for different guitars. This is great. If you get this set into your mind and into the ritual on stage - switch guitars, tune your amp to the guitar - amazing things can happen depending what you want to do.
For early breakup, volume up, tone lower and presto
For cleaner headroom and overall more thump, volume medium and tone up.
Then begins the fine tuning which includes of course using the guitar volume (between 5 - 10 for clean to dirty) and different combinations of tone and volume settings on the amp. This is some of my sound for the DRRI now:
Telecaster (MIM Baja)
Cleanish to dirty like the Stones
Volume 5, Bass 2, Treble 2, Reverb 2. Tele volume 5 - 10 from clean to dirty and the tone backed off just a tad
Telecaster (MIM Baja)
Clean, country - Joe Walsh Eagles stuff
Volume 4, Bass 7, Treble 8. Tele Volume 7 - 10 - breaks up a bit on higher volume. Tone backed off 50%
Strat (CS 1960 CC)
Clean, thumping Strat - Knopfler
Volume 3.5, Bass 9, Treble 10. Strat volume 6-10 which breaks up a little at 10. Tone controls backed off a bit
Add this to the touch sensitivity and the creativiy is endless. These amps are just the tits!

Mach3, could that ticking be coming from where you wear your watch? I had a ticking once and plugged the amp up all over my house--then I realized that my pups were picking up my watch.
ch willie, No it was not my watch,funny though,it's just something common on most DRRI in the vibrotto channel, or so I've read.
Hope you can get it fixed. My DRRI sounds like it needs a tube. I just had them all replaced 9 months ago, and I've only been playing in my music room. Is it common to go through tubes like that with a DRRI?
I don't think it's something that can be fixed,although I'm known to be anal at times with certain issues such as tone and sounds of amps and effects,the tick in it's self is not that noticeable but it is there.

Not a Reissue, but an old one...my '67 will tick with the trem sometimes. I cured it by finding the right tube.
I just kept swapping it out until I found one that wasn't too sensitive.
I think mine sounds horrible if I over use the Vibrato or reverb, I use them sparingly especially at higher volumes.

I had one that ticked, so I took it back to the store and got another that doesn't. If that's an option for you, I recommend it before a DIY fix.

Mine ticks when I wind it properly, seriously the sweet spot is obviously different to different ears. Play with it until you find yours but try some volume you don't need to cut a bright cap or anything else, just break it in and it will sing.

I thought it sounded great. You guys could have played with a little less volume, but I know that you have to stay balanced with Todd so he ends up setting the level for everyone.
I got a DRRI a few months ago, and i just can't get along with it. Its one of those Limited Editions with the Jensen Alnoco. What a dog. I wanna sell it. Gonna get me a Kingsley.

Wow CocoTone, what don't you like about the DRRI? I built my own DR clone with a 15" speaker and I don't hear anything not to love. Jerry has brought his DRRI over and again I think it sounds great. Is the speaker the problem?
The DRRI is an acquired taste if you are use to high gain this amp will probably take some time to get use to. Each of us has that tone in our heads that we want and DRRI is not the universal amp although add a pedal like a Tri Boost and you pretty much can cover a lot of sonic landscape.

I wasn't always a Geezer! I have had the high gain amps and ended up with the first great amp I have owned, only a DRRI instead of the original, and I am at home with this amp.

Not sure if it is the Alnico. I know the DRRI is not perfect......I would be looking at botique if my wife would let me spend the coin on it I guess (she let me spend more on another hobby I have since she enjoys them also).
Maybe just a dog. I put a more efficient speaker and new tubes in mine and then I was happy.....

I went from a Super to the Deluxe. Bad move. Just nowhere near the same tone. Check ouyt the Kingsley's sound clips. Simply an awesome amp.
