Blues Jr. Limited Edition with a sunburst finish......

Alright, so I have had my little workhorse amp for a couple of years now and when I had her running, she was great. I have to replace the 12AX7 pres and both of the EL84s to get her back up and running, and figured while I was at it, that I would replace some of the other stuff in her too. I know I have to clean that grille cloth too, didn't notice that stain cause I have had her in storage for almost a year...actually she needs a lot of cleaning from the looks of these pics.

First, the EL84s appeared to have been jostled in my last move a band one was even broken in the tip. If I am later diagnosing why my amplifier isn't working, anything I should be aware of with this in mind?

Also, I have read some really great reviews of people with Jensen C12N speakers in their blues juniors as an upgrade. I already have a "Special Design" Jensen speaker, although I am not sure which. Let's see if this pic helps anyone help me identify what I have.

Any other mods anyone would recommend? Ain't she pretty?

And since I know gut shots are mandatory posting here, I figured I would include one. This shows how mine has the cream board, which I hear isn't as much fun (or as easy) to play with as the green board.

    Alder or ash?

Seriously, tha's some fine lookin' cabinetry there. Mebbe a bit impractical for a workin' stiff but still......tres kewl!

I'd stuff a Swamp Thang in there. Or a Cannabis Rex.

I like that finish. The speaker looks like it says P12R on the lip there.

Just found out from a little research that it is a Jensen 12R and there were only 200 of the sunburst (ash) models made worldwide.

Maybe I need to clean it up a bit... :)

    Hahahahaha.....

This is a really good amp to do studio work with. The tone is pretty good coming out of the cone and it is easier to carry (lighter) than most of my guitar cases.

I am thinking I will slap a large dia....diaphr.....screw it......condenser in front of the speaker and keep this one in the studio and use the HRDlx on the road.

    LDC works...LOL...

If you're gonna take the HRDx out of the house you should have a backup plan...I never gigged with mine without taking a little Vox Pathfinder amp in the car with me - just in case the HRDx blew, I could make it through the gig...

And by the way, that BLJr looks sweet with that finish!

An extraordinary finish for an ordinary amp.

Thanks Chris I really like this little wonder. No frills, nothing fancy or blow you away about it, but it does what I need it to and gets quite a few raised eyebrows with the finish. I like the tone through this better than my HRDx. Maybe one day I can save myself some coin up and get a DRRI.

I'll have to be the dissenting voice. I don't like the look. I'd like a nice Mary Kaye blonde instead.

But it's not about me being happy, it's about you being happy.

The only thing I don't like about it is that once I was playing through it and using my sunburst strat. I set the guitar in the stand next to the amp and this gal says

    "Awwwww, look, they match."

    Definitely a studio amp.

I like those amps. I like the cab. I like that speaker in that amp as well, even better than a c12n. I do not know about the Swamp Thang - I love that speaker. I happen to have one in a solid pine white blonde cab I use for recording as well. See Avatar.

Yes I like white blonde, but I like solid boxes for the speaker cabs or combo cabs if I can.

If that "gal" is good lookin' AND she even NOTICES your equipment and you're NOT married, it sounds like a great thing...if you ARE married, then send 'er my way!

Great looking BJr but it is still a BJr. Try playing some of the RIs that are out and see if you still want to record with that sound, I have a good BJr and my DRRI gets all the playing time.
