Re: pulled the trigger on some mackie srm 450's

bear in mind, i'm not really a sound guy, so my terminology will be a little imprecise, but here goes...

well, we did the 2 pc thang, then new yrs eve with painting wendy. the blues gig was fun...got to set up FOH, just miked vocals and kick drum. the kid (17yrs old) on lead plays an artcore and a LP goldtop w/ mini hb's thru a seriously antique silvertone...holy shit is he loud! once i got him down below the threshold of pain it sounded pretty good. the vocals were nice and risp, required almost no eq (just a little tweaking on the channel strip of the phonic helix board).

i was really impressed w/ how well 12" speakers handled the kick drum...wasn't massive, but you could still feel it in your chest. not sure what mic he was using, but it was a great tone (didn't even have a port cut into the head).

couple nights later we did the three pc. painting wendy cowpunk show. miked the vocals, kick and some overhead sdc's. the overheads sounded nice and crisp, but couldn't get near the definition out of the kick like the previous show...think it's a mike issue, not the mains.

the vocals seemed a little weird @ first, but i think that's 'cuz we're used to ancient peaveys, and the mackies are crisp and clean, and loud as hell. i turned them up to about 12:00 for the two pc band, but they're 17 yr olds w/ poor mic technique and not much experience. with my band (all 40 or so, been singing proffessionally for 20 yrs or so) i had to back the mains down to 9:00 or risk blowing everyone out of the room. never had any clipping or feedback issues they held up great all night long. gonna be more than enough or the venues we play.

Sounds cool. Always wondered about those.

I've got a quartet of Turbosound 12M monitors that I got a killer deal on, that I use as mains, monitors...anything really. Nice sound, rugged, and lightweight. What more could a geezer want?
