    anyone know about c4558c chips?

i have about 10 that are living on an old sunn circuitboard. i ASSume i can use these like any other 4558 chip?

i do have a stash of rc4558p chips, but would rather not tap into those unless i'm using it for me or a close friend.

i've looked a little on the interweb but couldn't find much. any info would be greatly appreciated!

Should be interchangable with other .3 DIP 4558. Handy little unity gain opamps with built in protection.

a little background, the texas intrsument's rc4558p is what came in the fabled ts808, it is the holy grail of tubescreamer chips. people get really up in arms about them. there is also the jrc4558d chip, which came in later ts9s and stuff. i believe they also used a 7558 chip in some. many other overdrive circuits use a variant of these chips. there is a lot of voodoo surrounding these things. i'll pull a quote out of the analogman's guide to vintage effects to fill you in a little. i've just recently really gotten into this pedal thing. it's a lot of fun, i'm sure like you guys and your amps. that's next on my plate.

Re: anyone know about c4558c chips?

Ah yes, I have done much research on the fabled differences between 4558 flavors. My TS9 Clone has a JRC4558 pulled from an 80's vintage JVC VCR. My TS7 (ToneLok version of the TS9) has a TI RC4558. I honestly cannot tell the difference between that and a modern TI RC4558, which is what Robert Keeley prefers in his TS9 mods.

But to answer your original question the C4558C is just another manufacturer's variant of the same device and affectively interchangeble.

well, since we're at it right now. while i was with my buddy he bought a real deal tube screamer (NOT a reissue) for 33 bucks out the door at GC cause it didn't work... got it home opened it up and tightened down the screw that holds the circuit board into the pedal. problem fixed! what a bunch door knobs they got working there.

what else you got stashed away man?

Keeley ran out of those chips. In fact hes run out of most everything. His factory burned down.

Re: anyone know about c4558c chips?

I hadn't heard that about Keeley's factory. That's a shame. I have never bought from the guy but I have done some of his mods in my own pedals. He's published a lot of his mod "secrets" pretty freely.

I hope he can rise from the ashes, so to speak.
