    The EV 15" SRO Classic

Whoa ! Big tight aggresive but not sterile bottom! Some seriously warm upper midrange charecter and just close to about enuf top end , lacking some sparkle and shimmer. I am really consideing this as even better than the percussive prescence of the 4x10 Jensen loaded cabinet.
This thing is huge! Tight and percussive blast -basically rocks your socks off to a degree beyond what the 4x10 does I think.
Sparkle and shimmer be damned, I like this. Trouble is..even though you can find the old 15 SR0's easily enuf..where you going to put em?
Not any 1x15 cabinets , besides bass cabinets.
Well, Ive got a Kustom solid oak cabinet loaded with the 1x15 SRO..I just got to rig up a speaker input jack. A word of advice; best to pump some serious wattage cause the monster that is the 15 SRO is power hungry!. I'm useing the 160 watts of the 6x6l6's in the Kustom Studio 6 Valve amp. Currently useing the preamp inputs to run a tube Pre (Peavey Rockmaster) into the beast. Not the greatetst overall Fender style tone, but some serious slamming sound!

I used one of those in a 1x15 Fender Tone Ring cab w/ a Super head and a dual Showman. I wouldn't hit it with more than 75 watts or so.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I agree about the wattage .In this particalar old 70's amp, the 'Kustom 160 watt 6 valve Studio' hybrid, ya just wanna keep it clean and it sort of self regulates itself whereby at the point the 15' SRO starts to distort is where you want to stop, cause the distortion tone isnt very good..so you've got all the headroom of the 160 watts at a level thats very loud, tight, percussive and present( in yo face)- but clean and safe for the speaker. Does that make any sense?

Yeah, I actually preferred that big ceramic to the JBL D130F alnico with the Showman. It was slightly warmer. With the Super it was a toss up.

for the record..I was totally freakin wrong. The 15" SRO sounds awefull with the Sunn head which sounded amazeing with the 4x10 Jensen/Fender Cabinet.

    +1

I usta play my EV/SRO-15 in a tone-ring Showman cab wif an AB165 Bassman. It sounded like a monstah when dimed, even with the impedance mis-match. I added a '66 Bandmastah cab wif D-120s later on which put some more "crisp" into the mix......really made one helluva nice rig (shoulda kept the sumbitch!).
