Rogue Analog Delay Stupid Deal of the Day

Don't know if I'm allowed to post this here but Musician Friend's Stupid Deal of the Day today is a Rogue analog delay pedal. I figure it's worth $30.

    I hope.

It appears to be "analog sounding" digital - rebadged Modtone/Belcat.

Too bad about the use of the term "analog". I'm not really surprised. It's still a decent deal, though.

    Sure is.

I bought one of the GC-resurrected "DeltaLab" delays a while back on a similar deal. It was pretty cold sounding, so I gave it to a buddy. I imagine with the analog simulation, this won't be an issue.

Re: Rogue Analog Delay Stupid Deal of the Day

I built the original BYOC digital delay. It was voiced to be warm like an analog delay and it sounds great. I've been using it for years. In fact, it replaced an Ibanez AD-9 that I bought new in the early '80s that I found to be too dark.

I have a co-worker who's just getting back into playing more and experimenting with delay and other pedals. I might just pass this one on to him.

I've got one of the RI AD-9 pedals, that I bought when it first came out. It kinda sucks. In fact it's a paper weight in front of me as we speak. I like my Carbon Copy a lot better...or one of the delays in the M9, when I can be bothered to fire it up.

My first pedals were a TS-9 that I bought used for $15 and that AD-9 (which I bought new for over $100). I thought they both sucked!

I got rid of both of them when I built better pedals.

I think the Rogue "Analog" Delay will sound fine.

I bought one of the Tremolo pedals a week ago when it was on the SDOTD. It sounds pretty darned good for $30 - now I have a pedal on my board and one loose one for those times when the full board is overkill.

I saw the analog delay but passed, because I already have those flavors well covered.

Build quality is pretty good...sound is good, if not great.

I kinda figured the same thing- this would be a pedal that I'd keep in my jam room for when I just want a little delay w/o my whole pedalboard.

I might've been interested in that tremolo pedal! I gotta keep an eye on those deals!

I have a sweet reverb in my amp that seems to be enough, along with the overdrive and gain boost. I have been looking at the TC Electronic Flashback, they sound very good.

Re: Rogue Analog Delay Stupid Deal of the Day

The pedal sounds good. It's warmer than my BYOC delay. It's got mostly surface mounted components on the side of the board that you can't see with just the bottom cover off, though I can see the rows of thru holes for the PT2399 chip.

My BYOC delay actually gooses my signal a bit- enough to drive my 5E3 clone a little harder. It's noticeable and sometimes keeps me from using it when I'd like to otherwise. On the other hand, this delay seems to dampen my signal slightly- kinda like my AD-9 did.

Good to hear. It's kind of a letdown, even is something is "only" $30, if it's a waste.

    I agree. I've returned other sale priced pedals- a $39 Tweak Fuzz, a $29 DS-1, etc...

I figured my son and his friends could use this pedal or I could pass it on to a friend.

It's amazing how many different voicings delay pedals can have! I wish I knew more about the technical side of them- what component does what?

That's funny, I returned my Tweak Fuzz too. They should have called it the Tone Killer pedal.

I drove back to GC and returned my Tweak Fuzz on the very same day that I bought it! I really thought it seemed like a great concept. I suppose it was, just poorly executed.

The Rogue Tremolo is $20.99. I'll give it a shot. I'm always complaining about my Voodoo Lab Tremolo. The depth and speed control have so much range that they're difficult to fine tune. I probably use a whole 5 degree range of the controls for everything I use it on!

Re: Rogue Analog Delay Stupid Deal of the Day

I got to use the delay and tremolo at a rehearsal last night.

I love the delay! It's got a nice warm sound that really adds to what I play. The repeats are not as bright as my BYOC delay, not as dark as the AD-9 that I used to have. It also does not add gain like my BYOC delay does.

The tremolo was fine- not mind blowing and not bad. I think my Voodoo Lab Tremolo is a little better, though I prefer this pedal's lack of features. The volume is preset and it's fine. The only odd thing is that the lower ranges of the depth and shape controls don't really do anything. The shape goes from sine wave to square all at once.

I also got to try out a used 2001 Teese RMC1U wah that I just bought last week. It's fantastic! What a nasty organic sound! It's almost inspirational. I wouldn't have expected this playing it alone at home, but it blows my Fulltone Clyde away!

I used these with my old standby Fulltone '69 pedal, my Carvin Vintage 33 amp that I removed the clipping diodes from and tweaked the dirty channel on and my Carvin DC-150 mahogany/maple dual humbucker through neck guitar.

The sound was wonderful and fairly inexpensive (about $1k for the whole rig)!

Just a word to the wise - I think my Rogue Tremolo has sh** the bed. On a gig last week it started to sound like a fuzz pedal, not a tremolo. I couldn't discern the problem, so I took it out of my signal chain and promptly forgot about it - until now. Have to circle back around and make sure the battery wasn't just dying.

Sounds like a battery issue, though it could be anything. Let me know if replacing the battery helps.
