Masochistic SG Lust: Show Me Yours

It'll be a few years before I can buy an SG, which along with the 335, are the ones I hope to have before death draws curtains over my blue spheres.

Masochist that I am, I'd love to see pics of your SGs if you have them. Why? Because I am obsessed. I especially want a black SG Std, white pickguard, black or white speed knobs, Classic 57 pups, locking tuners, and dammit, I'd love to try out the Min etune / G Force or whatever they call it now.

Not exactly an "SG" but here's my Historic Shop '62 Les Paul re-issue......

When I need that gritty Angus Young vibe, this guitar delivers. It's at its best through a Twin Reverb or Dual Showman.

    Show off our SGs?

Well, since you've twisted my arm, I ~suppose~ I could be talked into it...

Here's my SG, which I've knick-named, "The Kraken," standing tall and proud:

Here's the Kraken, just kickin' back and chillin' after a hard day:

    Dude you asked for it!
    JACk

The White Witch and The Voodoo Queen ( the Les Pauls name is Grey Ghost)

Might I suggest a good Epiphone SG to salve your GAS for the little horned Devils ;)

The White Witch has 57's (that are friggin awesome) with hsc I snagged her on ebay for 250.00 ----seriously----get an Epi!

Oh good lard in heben! I am not a snob. I owned a right handed Epi SG for a short time, and I liked it a lot, just couldn't deal with a non-lefty.

Your white SG is stunning (so are the others).

I'm not a gear snob, so I'd play an Epi SG without shame.

Speaking of which, if I had the dosh, I'd bite on this one tonight: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Epiphone-G-4...item487c3f9c0e

    Heket, for goodness sakes.

I labeled the thread masochistic because I knew I was in for some sweet pain. What the hell was I thinking?

But keep em coming. SGs in all those colors. A lefty damns his orientation.

Re: Masochistic SG Lust: Show Me Yours

In my life as a stinko guitar player there's three or four style instruments that are almost always in my corner; A Strat, Les Paul, ES335, and a P-90 equipped SG. Had a '64 SG Spl that I bought new then that I kept for decades and only sold it because I was destitute. But that's another story....

Today I have the Epiphone equivalent of that same SG in the '61 SG Spl that they made for a bit in 2011. Pretty close to my old baby right down to the metal pointers on the controls. Yeah, it ain't exactly the same but it's as close as I'll ever get these days.

I'm not a very good photographer but this is the best I could do.

Oh, and as to being a southpaw.... I was born left handed into a right handed world. Thanks to not having lefty stuff as a kid, and the "wonderful" teacher at the reservation and her excessive use of a ruler on my left hand, I use right handed stuff. See, it's possible to adapt if one is beaten across the hand enough by psychotic white women! Thanks to that old bitty and her ruler I can use right handed stuff well in fact.

Re: Masochistic SG Lust: Show Me Yours

Ha ha ha. Well, when I started playing, I was so glad that I was a lefty because of McCartney, so I knew lefty guitars were out there. For years, I just turned the guitar around, the strings upside down.

A couple of years later, I got a lefty Ric 4001, which I still have and love.

I like your SG, Old Ranger. I've had some bummer Epiphones, and a couple of good ones, including a righty G-400, didn't like intonation differences because of the slanted bridge or the controls under my forearm, so I sold it. But it was a solid, great sounding guitar without mods.

Re: Masochistic SG Lust: Show Me Yours

Well today it's the Gibsons that are junk and the Epiphones that are the good ones. At least that's my view on the matter. I wouldn't buy a new Gibson if they were giving 'em away. Over priced shoddy pieces of...... well you get the picture.

The sadist teacher at the rez did convert me to right hand stuff though. Only thing I do left handed anymore is shave, brush my teeth, and comb my hair. Everything else is with the right now. And then a couple years ago I have a stroke that clobbered my right side and I got about 50% working right in that arm now. Oh well...

I would have an Epi version to show, except I wouldn't pay the extra $50 the guy wanted in trade for my Epi Dot last month, (maybe I should have!)

Re: Masochistic SG Lust: Show Me Yours

Oh, but Jeru, I'd like one SG with P90s and one with HBs. But man, an SG Jr is a great guitar. I would not turn one down for the right price.

The older I've gotten, the less of a gear snob I've become. I am not a full time muso, and I can't justify the bucks for the Gibson's they're producing now. I have seen some $1000 Gibson SG Stds on Reverb and eBay, and one day, I may snag one of those, or a Carvin, or some midline guitar that is good to go.

Last night, a buddy brought over his Squier Tele. The flat fingerboard and fret edges mar it to a degree, but otherwise it sounds good and plays well. It has an alder body, and overall it's a beauty. I'd play one of those without shame, something I wouldn't have considered when I was young.

I hear you. Years back, I bought a really beat up "Silvertone by Samick" SG-type off a guy in Racine, Wisc for practically nothing. The interwebs say these were
made on the same factory line where they made the epiphones at the time. I put some GFS pickups into it, a HB in the bridge and a bucker-sized SC in the neck.
It totally rocks. It's very SG-esque on the cheap -- The 'Esque-G'

Even though I'm not into religious symbolism, I'd consider buying one of these SGs, the new Iommi Epiphone.
