Terje Rypdal and his Squier Strat

Last night I went over to a friend's house for a couple of beer cans and some music on TV, and he put a 1995 live performance by Terje Rypdal, Miroslav Virtous and Trilok Gurtu, one of the best power trios I've ever seen (I knew the three of them already, but had never seen this performance before.

I was already hooked by the immaculate strat sound Rypdal did, and after a good couple of minutes, guess what: it is quite visible that he was actually playing a Squier. Most probably a modified one, as artists will often mod their guitars to suit their own needs, of course, but my respect was increased.

I especially liked the percussion too. Definitely worth seeing, guys!

Sweet playing. I've been a fan of Miroslav since his first album on Embryo Records. So rare to hear a drummer who plays music and not just the beat.

No, it just means that I think the player is far more important than the logo. I did my first paying scoring work using a borrowed Squier that played and sounded great.

Oh I had my "Vintage" instruments when they were new back in the old days. A '60 Strat in 1965 was just another used Fender that could be had for a little over a C note from an individual and maybe a couple hundred from a shop with it's big markup. Tons of stuff you younger lads would leave stains in your skivvies if you owned them now, have passed through my hands over the years. But now there are no High Dollar ANYTHING in my place. An '05 Squire Bullet Strat is what I play now and it's just fine. A couple of Epiphones now take the place of vintage Gibsons.... Yeah, now that I'm old and somewhat set in my grumpy ways I get a bit pissy when I see someone look down their nose at stuff. I am well aware that one's tone is within themselves and not their gear. And I really despise folks that buy lots of expensive stuff and then shake it in front of others so that they may feel important. Must be my reservation upbringing.
I drive a Rez Rocket. A 1992 POS Chevy Blazer. Windows don't work. Brakes are shot. A/C is iffy at best. Hits on five of it's six cylinders. But it gets me from point A to B. But when some wiseass pulls up alongside in a BMW or some such and gives me that "LOOK" I wanna just pull his pansie arse from his beamer and smack the smirk off his face.

That Strat you own is actually a very beautiful one. I remember you posted pics of it.
