Gigging with my 55 years old Telecaster

    Hello everyone!

I just wanted to introduce what is, and has been, my main guitar for the last 6 years. Before it I had a small collection of newer guitars, but at a certain point I decided I just really needed a couple of good guitars and be done with it. So I sold everything and downsized to just two guitars, with the Tele being the one I played 90% of the time.

As you can see it is a really worn 1960 Telecaster, which makes it a player, definitely not a collectors item but a great tool for someone that wants to play it out everyday. And that is exactly what I do! I take it everywhere, no matter what type of gig. Of course I take good care of it, but at the same time I don't have to be concerned about scratching it a little bit...

I play it through different amps depending on the venue, but the magical ones for me are a 1965 Blackface Princeton Reverb for cleans, and a 1956 Tweed Deluxe for some delicious saturation.

Without further due here you have the guitar (if you like the first photo please make sure to check here the huge high resolution version of it for all details):

This is the day I got it 6 years ago:

Have you ever thought of having it repainted, with an inch thick layer of poly on it to make it shiny?

Just kidding. What a blast that Tele must be to play.

I always wonder how many owners must have loved it during this last 55 years...

    Wow! This is awesome stuff!!!

I love the simplicity of picking a bare-bones set of tools and making it work for EVERYTHING!

I could be happy the rest of my life with those two guitars & that Fender Deluxe Reverb. I'm sure it's not true, but I tell myself that anyway

Two of my favorite guitars - a TV yellow Tele and a Goldtop LP. Fantastic specimens!

And to think, Fender is selling brand-new "old" Teles, the "road worn" models. Some retail at $899. I've also seen a "Road Worn" Player Tele for just under $1,700.

Sigh. I now have two Teles, and I love them both. I'll play them out until I get to the feeling that "this is the guitar to end all guitars."

And then I pick up my Stratocaster, and fall in love all over again.
