    Registration and banned free emails

I invited a fellow to join TFF and he told me he couldn't, because the registration process wouldn't accept his hotmail account.

I remember I had the same problem. Does the platform still act like this? I think it kinda bars lots of new registrations.

That's up to admin ultimately, but as a moderator I can tell you that places like hotmail allowed literally thousands of porn/advert bots to flood this site and we were spending all of our moderator time scouring that stuff. We do have a verification process now that doesn't allow immediate access with any email address until approved by admin, but the bot-programmers had gotten good enough to make the bots seem like real people until that first post.

I realize there's a downside if folks opt not to use more reputable email servers, but "free" isn't the issue. Many current and newer members of TFF use email services that are free but not nearly as sketchy as hotmail. Just my two cents. I certainly hope we can find a way to get your friend aboard!

    Thanks for the feedback, pc!

You know, you're right about the spammers.. Anyway I think it would be cool to display some kind of instructions on the registration form, so that people would understand how it works and not give up.

It's really good for the board when new blood joins in!
