It ought to be here next week. I already have a Hofner Contemporary, but I'll sell it. I've always wanted a real, German made Hofner. Unlike the CTs, the German Hofners have no solid middle block and are hollow.

It's already Tuesday for me.
The Hofner is supposed to be delivered by tonight.

It's here. It's beautiful. And it weighs about 4 or 5 pounds--thanks to the hollow, small body.
I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet, but it's really resonant and sounds great already.
Hofner Germany does beautiful work in design and manufacture. This thing is not just well made; it's a marvel of guitar building.
I'll try to make a short video of it to post here soon.

I played for a while and discovered a few things.
1st off, the tone is far superior to the CT Hofner. The CT has a tendency towards cheap-sounds the further up the fretboard you go. The German Hofner sounds great from beginning to end, and the intonation is perfect all up and down, great because floating bridges are hard to work with sometimes.
The sound is comparable to Macca's Hofners, but the bass is capable of so much more besides.
I'm definitely gigging this one, and with pride.
Hofner this week; Rickenbacker 330 last week. I'm through...for a while. I'm still longing for a 335.

I'm still blown away by this bass. So well made, sounds so good. Great thump to edgy snarl.
Here it is hanging.

From everything, I'd read, the CT Hofners were supposed to be a premium bass at a low price. I think I paid 600 for mine. Don't get me wrong: it's a great bass.
But the difference between it and the German built one are night and day. The craftsmanship is so much better as you would expect, but the sound is twice as good. The German Hofner just feels right in my hands.
It's got flats on it, and I like them. I've thought about putting them on my Ric, but I don't want to lose the edginess of round wounds.
