Gone Fretless

Hey all. I finally bought my first fretless bass, the Player Jazz Bass Fretless, MIM. I'm replacing the white pickguard with a tortoise shell one, and maybe another little aesthetic change (I do dig those 1968-75 Jazz Bass headstock logos). It's not quite like learning to play all over again, but it's definitely taking a little getting used to. It's fun, and that's what it's all about. The guys were a little like "Whoa!" when I pulled it out, and they did say the tone was different but very cool. I guess its the flatwound strings vs the roundwounds. Loving it, though. I'd love to hear from people who've gotten a fretless after playing fretted for a long time. Cheers!

Congrats. Man, I wish they made one of those in lefty. You've re-awakened my interest in fretless basses.

I wanted one so bad in the late 70s when Frampton Comes Alive came out and in the gatefold sleeve was a photo of Stanley Sheldon playin his fretless Precision, maple fretboard. Black body. I still want one of those.

It's very hard to find a lefty fretless-Sire's Marcus Miller basses are available, Jazz types, and Schecter models are around in lefty, but I'm not excited by either of those.
