Look What I Did OS! Eastman 810CE

I've been eyeing one of these for a while.

    Great sounding guitars, these Eastmans.

On my budget, I could only get this if selling the gear I don't use or need. Zoom multi-track hard disk recorder, fx, etc. Maybe even a great pedalboard.

Anyway, what I'm writing these days calls for a decent Jazz box. My Epiphone Casino is not really the best for the sound I want. I listed to several youtube vids of people on the model, and yeah, it's a great sounding Jazz container.

    Very nice.
I've been kicking around the idea (not need... but need.) for a jazz bax for a little while now.
I have a Gibson ES-135 (with P-100s|) that I keep strung with flatywoulds, and it's OK for that, but...
I was looking at the D'Angelico Excel that's been out - the middle range one, that retails around $1300 - $1500 or so,
and the same place had an Eastman. i tried that and it sings! Blew the D'A out of the water.

I watched a couple of shoot outs. I like the Eastman’s smooth and focused bass.

Solid spruce top. “Hand-Carved” maple body. Ebony fingerboard.

that is a really handsome guitar. I saw some Eastman in the flesh at a music store in Hanover NH, home of Dartmouth College. I'll be up there on next month's trip to Lebanon. Might be time for another visit.

That's a very pretty guitar, Willie. The only problem is that it faces in the wrong direction.

With such a fine jazzbox, I'll expect you to get to work on this old chestnut right away

Oh, wow! I haven't listened to Joe Pass in forever. I forgot how truly magnificent he was. It was guys like Pass, Kessell, Burrell, Metheny and such that made me want to just hang up the instrument. A mark of my maturity is that I can now listen rapturously and not try to focus on my guitar shortcomings by comparison. Thanks!

Cogs. That’s the kind of playing I’m wanting to learn.

Well I certainly don't have a handle on it, but I will say that if you want to learn that stuff, you can only get so far watching videos on YouTube or other places. You almost have to sit down in person with a mature player. Some years ago I attended a bunch of clinics & had a private lesson with local jazz legend Tim Lerch. Tim studied under Ted Greene & it shows. Tim's instruction transformed my playing, no joke.
If you like that style & want to learn it, I say GO FOR IT.

I have a friend in Germany who has been learning the style. He’s goin to show me what he’s learning. I used to play a bit of stuff like this and just left it. After all these years, I retained all the chordings but need to work on using them in a jazz context. It’s a fun thing to learn new things on the guitar.
