Oil for walnut fretboard

Hi.

I've just bought a CC 60S mahogany acoustic and I'm very pleased with it so far. Very playable and I will be fitting an LR Baggs pickup soon for live use.

I've noticed the walnut fretboard is very dry, as is the bridge. I've always used Dunlop Lemon Oil on all my other guitars which have rosewood fretboards and was wondering if I should use it on the walnut.

Any thoughts please...?

Lemon Oil has always been my first choice for dry woods. Well, actually, humidifying is my first choice, but lemon oil makes a neck easier to maneuver about, IMO.

You should not have any problems using lemon oil on walnut

Walnut is a tight-grained wood, similar to rosewood and ebony. I don't see any issues using lemon oil on it as a prophylactic preservative. I've been using lemon oil on my 35+ y/o solid walnut entertainment center and on my 50+ y/o JBL L100 speaker cabinets with no observable problems whatsoever.

Those JBL L100s were great speakers! I almost bought a pair (sold lots of them, though), but settled for a pair of AR-11Bs instead.

If you don't have nut allergies, you can use Walnut oil but Lemon oil is very common. You could use food grade mineral oil, for that matter- lemons don't produce much oil and the only reason it's called 'Lemon Oil' is due to the scent.
