…and now this giant 2.5” thick hunk of Korina in my attic is staring at me. I built one guitar about 10 years ago (double cut Les Paul special, in Korina). Screwed up a few times, learned a lot, guitar ended up actually pretty good IMO (though you’d never mistake it for a custom shop instrument). But, I’d always planned on doing a carve top next. So…
It’s going to be a double cut style Les Paul. I like the double cuts because they don’t immediately look like a Les Paul and I’m nowhere near comfortable designing my own body AND the top carve contours. So, trying to do something original without being too out of left field.
But the finish? Granted, this will likely take a loooooong time but:
1. Les Paul Custom with finish and appointments similar to the 50’s Korina flying V’s and Explorers
2. Les Paul Custom (or standard?) in Pelham Blue with black mounting rings and pickguard
3. Goldtop
I’m thinking a Pelham Blue custom style. I’d have to commit to the LP Custom fairly early to do the binding on the back.
