The Last Sunday of October 2023

Well, here it is, 8:30 PM on Saturday evening and I thought…what the hey, we’ll get a jump on this thread because I may be dead by Sunday morning.

Let me clarify. I spent a good amount of time today outside mowing the lawn, raking leaves, and trimming big plants, and my muscles have been aching while I sit here sipping scotch to reduce the effects of physical activity on an aging body (no more spasms after my second drink).

I found a good friend has passed away in the last week and I’m really bummed about that.

I truly hope all have a great Sunday and a new week.

This kinda blew my mind when I saw that it was 12:16 am Sunday on the east coast when I read it!

Re: The Last Sunday of October 2023

Same here. It's 5:38am as I type this. Even though I thought I'd probably be the first one to start a Sunday thread, I'm actually kinda relieved to see one here already!

On my list today is perhaps the purchase of a new car. I've really liked my little electric smart car, but it's now eight years old and now that I've retired, I'm not looking to start having to service it (I recall reading that between the ages of 7-12, cars start needing more repairs). Especially because no one in this area services them anymore! So, I may let it go in favor of a new "grocery driver" as I call it. I just had work done on my Mercedes-AMG E53, but I don't want to turn that into a daily driver, so I'm going out to look at a Kia. Small, cheap, economical and boring. I'll report back.

Other than that, it's Sunday. The one day of the week that isn't Saturday.

Re: The Last Sunday of October 2023

Raining here in Connecticut, continuing a season of rainy weekends. At least yesteday was amazing - in the 80's and perfect for yard work. Mowed and bagged the lawn twice - once on the high setting and once a bit lower. It looked really nice for about ten minutes and then a gust of wind blew leaves all over it. Today it looks like I never touched it. Friday I stopped by TireRack to pick up a set of snow tires and wheels for the new Subaru. They'll go on in the next couple weeks. I also need to take the summer tires off the Mustang and put on all-seasons. Summer tires can crack below 40 degrees, so we make the switch. The truck is all set - it just needs an oil change and we'll be good for the Winter.

Today I'll spend time working on the guitar part for a song I hope to record on Friday. Otherwise - it's a lazy day planned, recovering from yesterday. My Association's annual convention is coming up in a couple weeks, so it's going to get plenty busy for the next two weeks as we prepare. In the (almost) 40 years I've been affiliated with this association, I've only missed one. 9 as a member and 30 as staff. Looking forward to it!

Re: The Last Sunday of October 2023

Well somewhat a lazy day here at the moment.

Had a bass gig last night and also started cutting some ply to serve as extensions to lay on top my grand piano. for the Holidays, I put up a Christmas Village, and I got some addition pieces that will require more room than the piano top affords.

Did church from home today, and had a few conversations with some of my best friends. Some good news, some bad news related. Need to cut another piece of ply to finish out the extensions. Then start getting stuff out. I like to have it up by Halloween, but not sure if that's going to happen this year.

Looking forward to taking my recently acquired 71 D28 into a luthier for a review at the beginning of Nov. I know it needs a neck reset, but I am also going to have electronics put in it. He can start work on it the beginning of Dec, so I'll just leave it with him. If this turns out how I think it could. This will be a lifer guitar, and most likely will sell my HI made Goodall.

Also joined an auto forum to seem about previous experience with an issue I am starting to get with 1 of the vehicles. If it is what I think it is, could be a $50 DIY 1 hr job.

PS: Was looking at my profile pic. It is so dated, I haven't lived in that area since 2008, but the location description I have is still appropriate for where I am at in Kentuckiana.

moved a few things around, slow going as I'm still on a cane. getting ready to do some work on a guitar (possibly disassembling to part it out). I will try to sell it locally but partscasters are a tough sell. I might put a ton of parts (bridges, trem blocks, claws, tuners et al) in a grab box and put a ridiculous price on it just to move it. Still on the fence about the MJT Tele body. It seems as though it is more of a sell it now vs sell it later after I've drilled holes for pick guard etc. I think I'm done with building guitars. Somehow I'll finagle a Tele but frankly the priority has dropped quite a bit on that.

really hunkering down now. Haven't gone out once in over 2 weeks. With the bro gone most weekends, got the living room to myself (and the cat, who loves having me around more). Been wanting more than ever to play while sitting in there and I don't want amps and cords in the living room. Next couple of sales and I'm getting a wireless guitar system.

Re: The Last Sunday of October 2023

A man with a million things to do, I've recently been crippled by the most profound fatigue I've ever felt. I have been an early rise for most of my life, and now, I can't seem to stir in the mornings. I do take meds known to cause drowsiness, but they've never bothered me so much. It's gotten to the point that it's interfering with my job, chores, and hobbies. I monitor my moods and symptoms to make sure my happy meds are doing their job, and I'm fairly happy at the moment. Except for the fatigue.

Screw all that, though. I've been on a strong round of prednisone, so my joint pain is temporarily at bay, and I've been enjoying playing my guitars, mainly the SG and the "Dark Night" Am Pro II Strat (aka the BatStrat)--such a fantastic sounding Strat. There's so much negative press and discussion about contemporary "American" Strats, but this is a special Strat, and I need to record with it to show what I mean. Also have been enjoying the Explorer. Such a rock star.

Always enjoy hearing about everyone's week. I get the feeling that I'm not really an insider here anymore, but I'm always glad to hear the good things that are happening for everybody, and I sympathize about the bad. Wish you all a great week.

    Hello, friends.

Busy times. Been working my @$$ off at the law office, and also spending a lot of time at the University getting ready for a sociology master and studying music production.

Luckily I'll release a new single soon, this time something more like "me", I mean bass, drums, vocals and a pleasantly overdriven electric guitar.

Funny how things are going in opposite directions for me: at work I follow the latest tech trends, AI and such. In my personal life I am leaning towards the analog world big time. I even got a vintage typewriter to write my songs' lyrics without any internet hassles.

Miss you guys a lot. Always good to come back here.

You should get checked for Lyme Disease and Myasthenia Gravis. I had a similar experience several years ago when I was in really good shape and suddenly couldn't get out of bed one morning. Severe fatigue. Changed my life forever. Don't mess around with it. Both can be a little tough to diagnose. Make sure the doctor you see is a neurologist either way. The sooner you figure it out, the better off you'll be.
    Good luck!

Late to the party here. Hit 1385 miles on the bicycle so far this summer. Had a 1000 mile goal that I have surpassed and reset to 1500 miles. Just 115 miles to go!

Made a new Pumpkin Butt Man for a friend yesterday and will be installing it on her front yard tomorrow. It will be the "photo stop of the town" for the next few weeks I'm sure.

Helped a damsel in distress with flooring and electrical problems today, played zero guitar, and went out for disappointing Chinese food. Big fun!

Saturday I snuck in an afternoon of bass fishing. Meduim bite and a lot of annoying pickerel tearing up lures. Still, it was nice to be out. Salmon run is pretty much over and the big boat gets pulled tomorrow. Hoping to make some time between band jobs to get down to Florida for some bass fishing soon.

Sunday was a low-key day, watched F1, lounged and watched the Mrs. go all Gladys Kravits with new neighbors moving in on the property to the west, lol. Spent some time with an old Stratocaster just played clean into a blackface Fender. What a great sound.

I think it could be the effects of rheumatoid, but you are right, and I should get checked.
