Galco Miami Classic or Miami Classic II

Anyone using a shoulder holster for their firearm? I usually pack on the hip but the weight of my pistol is causing my pants to sag a bit. I'd like to try one. A little spendy though

I find most shoulder rigs to be a PITA for casual (read 'occasional') use though I used them extensively in my "other" life. Currently I'm using an inside-the-waistband Galco worn at the small of my back to carry a Sig P239 equipped with a Crimson Trace grip-mounted laser sight. It's an extremely thin single-stack 9mm (world's thinnest or so I've been told) of alloy construction. Very light and holds eight rds. Much less cumbersome than a standard service pistol.

I use one but it's a reverse style where the handgrips are under your arm and the barrel is pointing up. It's more easy to conceal that way and I find it much more comfortable. It's also a faster draw since you don't need to clear the muzzle around your arm.

I don't like belt holsters because they would always catch on the pilot's seat. You had to swing it around between your legs.

Back in the day a friend gave me a Galco under arm, holster on weak side mag pouch on right, I used it some during the winter. It balanced well with the Mod 60 I carried back then!
What I use anymore is a Safepacker on the hip, unobtrusive, and year round wear, with a Glock 33 and a spare mag, it really doesn't weigh much!

I've had a number of waist holsters (inside, outside, leather, kydek) but I couldn't get used to any of them. My favorite was a Galco leather outside belt holster. Very comfortable, but if I wore it for any length of time it drags my pants down

Is that the one that Don Johnson wore in Miami Vice?

I can't confirm that, Roger, but it's pretty safe to assume that's the case

I need a good cross body holster for lefties. I’m not really versed in gun gear. Any suggestions?

I don't know much but I'd say Galco would be a good place to start. They seem to make about everything. They also seem kinda pricey, tbh. I'd say find something on their website that looks like what you want & then ask others about similar brands

Contact my friend Doug Childers at Bear Creek Holsters. If he doesn't have what you're looking for, he'll make it. And it won't cost you your firstborn, either!

After collecting nearly as many holsters as I have guitars, Doug's stuff ended my search. I prefer the Back Pocket Holster w/ Removable Back Panel (which makes it a front pocket holster), but I have small hands and therefore like small guns.

Doug knows me also as OldStrummer from the now-defunct Seecamp forum, and we've spoken at length over the phone. He's a great guy and you will be 100% happy with his output.

Doug is pretty much a one-man operation. His business is actually named Bear Creek Metal Works, which was the full-time gig until he retired. Making holsters was a side hustle, but illness forced him to get out of the metals arena. Since then, he's focused on making quality holsters, and has become very skilled and knowledgeable with exotic leathers (no kydex for Doug!). He sent me a wallet made of alligator and kangaroo, which is unlike any wallet I've seen before. He included a thumb drive with over one thousand e-books, knowing I was nearing retirement. Like I said, a terrific guy!
