I put a Duesenberg Les Trem II on my Heritage H-535 today! It has a nice feel- somewhere between a Bigsby and a Strat's vibrato.

Hah! Yes! It's ugly as hell, but works great! It even stays in tune. Best of all, it's completely bolt on and can be removed in a few minutes if/when I get sick of looking at it!

I bought on eBay from ADP Guitar Parts in France. It was under $100, plus shipping and arrived exactly one week after I ordered it.

Blackonblack, just be aware that Les Pauls require a locking nut with a trem unless you have an Aldo Nova. D and G strings are already problematic, it's one of the things Heritage fixed when they redesigned the headstock. We can live with it with a stop or wrap tailpeice but not with a trem.

Traditional ABR1 style. There's enough play between the holes in the bridge and the posts that the bridge moves back and forth smoothly when the vibrato is used. It's staying in tune very well.

I have Bigsby style trems on 4 guitars (2 being a Heritage and a Tele). The other 2 are on a Duesenberg and a Penguin. The break angles and spread angles on those are quite similar to the LP. The Duesenberg is the closest. None give me issues with a properly cut nut and saddles.

I put a Bigsby on a Gibson ES-135 and it was fine.

Don't know if I use the term bought, but horse traded (after all it is Derby day which is a big thing here). Fender Custom Shop 57 Strat. I am not a fan of heavy relic, but who cares, it plays and sounds great. And that what keeps checks rolling in.

short version, late last month I regained the ability to go up and down stairs almost normally again. Finally reacquainted myself with gear down there. Over the Memorial day weekend, nephew saw my Squier mini P bass and traded back my '08 CV50 Tele for it. I mentioned this in the Sunday thread that I found a 2011 Squier CV60 Precision bass in Fiesta Red. I've wanted one of these ever since they came out in 2010 but I didn't have the money, the run was short lived and they disappeared. They come up very seldom in the market. I even tried to buy one from Japan but the seller was not in possession of the actual bass, a common thing over there.

Seller was less than 45 minutes away, we met half way in a Walmart parking lot Sunday afternoon. I plugged it in on the same setting as the mini P bass was used last time. As good as the mini sounded, it doesn't compare to a long scale length. There were things rattling sympathetically that the little guy didn't even budge. It came strung with TI flat wound and I love these strings.

It's in my office right now, waiting for a check up. Late last night, I picked it up and an hour went by without even noticing. The seller said a friend who works on instruments for students/staff at Berkley in Boston set it up. They did a fantastic job. This is the bass I've been looking for ever since I first picked one up.

sort of guitar related even if it's not a guitar or music gear. I just ordered a new workbench to go in the basement, a Husky 52" adjustable height bench. I have one in my office but it's assembled and probably going to stay there. This will either replace the old kitchen table I'm currently using or supplement it. Horizontal space is at a premium down there.

update on the bench. I could only buy it fully assembled, they won't sell me one in a box. Bro and nephew are both nursing sore backs. Bench is still in my car, making me very nervous when driving. Accelerate too hard, take a speed bump too fast, get hit from behind even mildly and the legs are going to take out my back window

I need some heartier relatives, LOL. Taking bench apart is not viable option, has moving parts (adjustable) that use the top as a support bracket. Losing any hardware disassembling outside is nightmare fuel. In my car it sits. There's no room in the garage, it's packed (whole other thing to deal with). At just under 93.5 pounds, it's a lot more than I can handle.

twofer posting: Fender announced the American Performer Timber series, I really liked the sound of the spruce body rosewood fingerboard honey burst Stratocaster. 22 frets, 6 screw bridge (currently only available on Custom shop) and 9.5" radius, jumbo frets Yosemite pickups with neck pickup added via push pull pot to any position. The usual places had them but GC had the best promotional financing and I am having it delivered to the store in town. If it doesn't grab me by the short hairs, I can return it on the spot. Might be in tomorrow.

I'm not a fan of rosewood necks on Strats, but on that one it just looks right. The rest of it looks pretty good, too! Congratulations. I hope you bond with it.

As I?m parting with a custom RW body acoustic sized as an OM (Goodall to pay for the D-18 Authentic), I ordered a cheaper alternative to fit that niche. Grabbed a limited ed Guild arch back OM-250e. The have a lam RW back side (solid spruce top) to fill the void. Its counter part is a Martin 000M. (Lam hog with solid spruce top).

Also did a complete inventory of items associated with each guitar. I ordered stuff so I do t need to multi-purpose things such as straps, capos, tuners etc.

I compared It against other sub 1000 RW based OMs. Last comparison was against the Martin X2. The Martin cost almost twice as much but in videos (through studio monitors), the Guild sounded almost twice as good. Decision made. So not counting odd ball acoustics (like a resonator, etc), we are even here now with 3 Martins and 3 Guilds

I'll offer an update after it arrives and the honeymoon wears off. It was a limited ed guitar so finding one is not that simplistic, but easy enough. Guild no longer catalogues it

Dang. Lack of a cutaway is a mark against, as I do play up around the 12ht-15th frets.

Slightly off-topic, but I rarely go above the 15th fret even on electrics that go to 22. Habit? I don't know.

Probably will drop a string gauge and work on the action, It?s tone and volume is great. Punches way above its weight. Really surprising. It is not stomped on vol wise by a RW dread. It’s not as loud as one, it what orchestra sized would be.

They are advertised as a glossy finish. I?d say it?s more semi gloss. That?s good as on the sides, there are pores not fully filled. They are sealed and finished, but not filled.

No regrets. You would be hard pressed to find a better sounding RW body sub 1000 guitar. And all for under 400.

A couple things inbound.

used Line6 Helix. I have 2 Helix LTs for production/performance. This slightly more capable unit will be for patch development. I don?t have to worry about where I?m at in modifying stuff.

Used 2014 Gibby Firebird 120th anny. I know I?ll change the pups from the ceramic based mini hum construction to a proper Firebird pups. Mini hums vs Firebirds while sharing a footprint and somewhat looks, are constructed radically different. A true FB pup is more along to 2 Melody Maker pups stuffed under a cover.

New pups ordered for the yet to arrive Bird. Went with Mojotone Johnny Winters set. Was between those, Lollars and Novaks. Ended up with Mojotone due to price and availability. Then the price got better as Sweetwater had a call in additional discount. Got another 15% off.

The pups may beat the Bird. The Bird shipped today from SE GA. The pups ship tomorrow (in state and 4 hrs away). Actually that would work great. Both are shipping to work. When I leave worked I?ll stop by my store and drop them off to have the pups redone (still haven?t dug out my soldering system from the move).

And this has to be the last one as I?m out space. A new Squire CV 60s Jazzmaster in sunburst. The weight was nice 7 lbs 4 oz and the seller offered (via Reverb) a really nice price. Ordered a Gator HSC for it with some points I had at the place.

the Firebird arrived today. Great condition and LW. Dropped it off for a pup change (as I dont want to dig through the storage unit for my soldering iron. )

Mark and I have been back and forth (in a good way) about quality low-end guitars, and I finally wound up burning a few of my Guitar Center gift cards on the Ibanez AAM50CE. The AA refers to their new Advanced Acoustic line, which feature some quality components at prices friendly to the wallet. The shape and size is their "Advanced Auditorium," which is the same size as my Martin OMC-15ME, which is their Orchestra Model. It has a sound port that Ibanez claims is scientifically designed with the internal bracing in mind, solid Sitka Spruce top and laminated sapele back and sides. But enough of the specs; you can't play specs.

This was my first-ever Guitar Center purchase. I could have had it shipped to my house, but I wanted to visit the nearest store and check it out. So I wandered in and left to myself, wandered around the floor until I saw the Acoustic room and went in. They had everything from kid-beater axes to high-end Martins and Taylors. Some of these were in locked hangers. I surmised the price point for lock up was about $1,500. They had a separate room-within-a-room featuring Taylor guitars, I went in there. I pulled off the wall a used GS Mini Mahogany, and quickly determined it had been beaten to death. But they had a very nice 324ce I played for a bit. (Side note here, with a little bit of hubris: I felt pretty comfortable playing these guitars as opposed to the younger folks who were attempting to find chords on out-of-tune git boxes. No fear of embarrassment here!). Finally, I went to the counter and gave them my confirmation number and they returned with my guitar. I opened it up because I wanted to check it out in case I changed my mind right away. Hint: I didn't.

At first, the guitar wouldn't stay in tune. I figured that it needed to acclimate, and that I'd broken the cardinal rule about letting a new guitar rest. But here's the thing: I ordered the guitar on August 5 and it was delivered to the store on August 8. They never contacted me to let me know it was there! I followed the tracking number to find out. So, I figured any acclimation it might need was probably already done. I noted the b and e strings felt a little high compared to the other strings, and felt maybe a new set of strings might be in order. But, after playing on it a bit, I packed it up again, bought a gig bag for it, and headed home.

Once again, I unpacked it and put it on a stand. It seemed out of tune again, but there is a built-in tuner, and I had a spare 9v battery, so I thought I'd give that a try. It's very nice. Kudos to Ibanez for an easy to read and accurate tuner. Turns out the guitar was detuned at least a whole step down, so I brought it up to standard, and all of sudden, the guitar came alive! Wow, smooth playing, some nice thump on the bottom, shimmering highs, and now the guitar stays in tune!

You know, I'm not embarrassed to have this guitar in a stand next to a Martin and a Taylor. I have a return window if it suddenly turns sour on me, but I think I'm going to give it some real work before that time arrives. Here are some photos. Hangtags and pickguard cover still intact.









Oh, yeah. $299. Before tax and gig bag ($29). Less than $350 in all.

heh I don?t care what the cost. The question is does the tool fit the job. I have no problem with sub 500 guitar setting next to guitars with 3x+.

All that matters is does it inspire you and sound good to you.

No matter what I play (guitar, bass, ukulele), when gigging, I like to have a similar instrument for backup. No need to change a string or take a break, or wait for the string to stretch and hold tune... just switch instrument, quick tuning check, and go on playing. Most of my recent gigs are on a fretless acoustic/electric bass. I just added a shorter scale fretless acoustic/electric bass, due to arrive early next week.
