The Sunday Thread for Cinco de May (May 5, 2024)

I waited an hour or so before posting this, thinking someone might be up and at 'em, but everyone seems to be sleeping in this morning.

I've had a rough week with a strained back caused by either doing too much weeding too soon after returning home from my trip, or from contracting some sort of low grade sickness. Since I broke my back in high school, it has always been the nexus for issues when I get a flu or something rendering the typical "body ache."

I'm feeling somewhat better today, but the week has been one of lethargy and recuperation. I have been playing guitar again, strengthening my calluses after four weeks of almost no playing. I've been fixated on the "unofficial" Australian national anthem, Raining On The Rock, which has given me an opportunity to play in Drop D, and that's been a lot of fun.

So, today it's back to the normal regimen. Church, then maybe lunch out, some afternoon baseball, and of course, playing guitar.

    Be well everyone!

Well, last night we finished the two week run at our annual fund raiser for the American Heart Association and a fun two weeks it has been. On Friday evening we had comedian Charlie Berens as a guest host for the second year. He was so impressed last year with the show he asked if he could come back and do it again this year. He donated his time, wit, and a couple of cases of his Beren’s Old Fashioned Brandy to the show. The brandy, autographed by Charlie, was auctioned bringing bids as high as $500/bottle each night. Over the 52 year run of the show we, so far, have raised $3.1 million and I think we’ll hit $100K again this year.
The theme was space travel this year so a lot of the material we played was stuff like Martian Hop, Blue Moon, Spirit In the Sky, and Hey Mr. spaceman. This was at the dress rehearsal.

Today is church, fill the vehicles with gas, put together 2 acoustic guitar racks and start prepping for a short trip to FL next weekend. If there’s any time left, I’ll put up 2 more guitar holders and remount some art.

sold an amp this week time to find the next item to put up. cool cloudy day here due to rain soon. was expecting company but they just begged out sick. probably do laundry and recuperate from last night's celebration of Star Wars. Just kidding, a nice OT game 7 win is more like it. The singer jokingly said "wow, thank you very much" for all the hollering the bar did when the Bruins scored. The game was on the big screen behind the band. While it wasn't a busy night it was an energetic one. For a change it did not rain on a Saturday night.

nothing planned for cinco de mayo, maybe go get the taco special down at the casino if i go early but no desire to be out tonight in the rain with a bunch of tequila swilling amateurs.

All this rain is making it difficult to get my bicycle riding in this spring. Only 201 miles on the clock so far.
Still recovering from pneumonia which doesn't help either!

Good day to continue prepping for more recording over the next few weeks. Got to get this project done. I'm actually considering a little "album release party" for early June.

    Brighter days are coming!

Just another typical weekend. Played a show Saturday night, got paid. Sunday mowed the grass and then smoked a lot of grass.
