The "Is It Sunday (August 11, 2024) Already?" Thread

Yikes! It feels like I just posted a Sunday message. The quick passage of time is a mark of growing old, I'm told. So, that must be it.

Had a delightful lunch with family yesterday, so I'm staying home today. The weather is going to be delightful, the baseball game is early, so I'll probably get out and enjoy the day in the afternoon.

The large knuckle of my fretting (left) hand is achey, making it difficult to bend. I suspect it's arthritis, although I've not been a sufferer before. I think I can still play, but I haven't yet picked up a guitar yet today. I'm still on my first cup of coffee.

Here's hoping everyone has a great Sunday!

Good morning! Looks like today is going to be one of the nicest days in a long time. Perfect weather to do a deep clean on the lawn. This was one busy week - had a conference on Thursday and had to present in all 4 of the breakout sessions. It's great work if you can find it!!! Friday we laid the groundwork for another tune in the studio. anyways, starting to pack for a trip to Nashville in a couple weeks. Going to visit my new family for a few days. Finding my Birth Mother after 65 years was such a blessing.

I can?t believe that we?re nearing the end of summer already. As I get older it seems the days fly by at a much quicker pace.

It looks to be a beautiful, sunny, upper 70s day here behind the cheddar curtain so it will be a nice ride to breakfast on the Harley, and maybe a day spent cruising.

Hope all have a great day!

Going for a 25 mile bicycle ride this morning.
This will make 100 miles so far for August.
The reviews of the new album keep coming in and it's very encouraging. Of course, you get a few nice comments initially. But as time passes, people are sending nice comments that dig much deeper into the tracks! And surprisingly, questions and comments on the lyrics! Wow! Who said " no one listens to the lyrics?!
Beautiful day here in New England.
Time to get outside and enjoy it!

Some slightly cooler and less humid weather here in Kentuckiana. Did church this AM. Need to run some errands, then have a gig tonight.

beautiful day here, fingers crossed for a cloud-free night to try to catch (a glimpse of) the Perseids meteor shower that is peaking tonight after midnight until dawn.

tad bit of drama on the home front, some of it was on me for not reacting well to changes that are happening. On the plus side, might be getting some assistance with the re-finishing of the basement. In a nutshell, the city thinks we still have two rooms and a bath in the basement, that I tore out 3 years ago this fall. TL/DNR: apparently need permits to take stuff out of your house, I didn't get one. But, we don't need a permit to rebuild the basement because the city thinks it's still there.

Having a problem with a CV50 Tele that I wanted to convert to 5 string a la Keef. I've had the neck of the guitar off last week and I'm not 100% convinced it is completely tight in the pocket. For some reason, the B and G strings die off way too quickly when bending above the 12th fret but the high E does not. Using a radius gauge, the B and G are lower than the other 3 but trying to turn the saddle screws to raise them didn't seem to have much effect. I attempted the project fairly late at night and decided to go to bed without resolving the issue.

Well ran through the set list again. I knew my ears had gone off towards the end of last night. Dialed everything the same and I was back to hearing what I wanted to hear.

That has to be such a cool, mind blowing experience.

By the way, recording was an experience I really disliked. When we laid down rhythm tracks I was stuck in a little isolation room with a set of headphones on?not at all the vibe I got when we were hammering tunes on stage.

I've only once had the opportunity to be recorded, and that was in an Armed Forces Network (AFN) studio in Germany. I was all of 18.

Still, I have to think that even the "sterility" of a recording studio yields results that would be difficult to capture live. I used to love live recording, but even those I expect have gone through some post-processing to make a suitable recording.

When it was affordable, I'd go to live concerts all the time. I loved jams and acts that could really burn the place up. I went to a Creedence Clearwater Revival concert once and was actually disappointed that they sounded just like they did on record! I was hoping for a more "live" experience! It wasn't until much later that I grew to appreciate how tight that band was to be able to recreate what they did in the studio. Delbert McClinton is another. Wow.

So, I get it. The interplay between band members live is something hard to reproduce in the studio. The Beatles stopped performing live due to the pressures of doing so. The "Get Back" 3-part series was a great peek into the workings inside a studio.

I just played a couple of gigs with a friend who, until Delbert retired, was his keyboard guy in the Self-Made Men band. He tells me some great Delbert stories.
